Abstract

A hot melt adhesive composition comprises a polymer comprising poly(α-methyl-β-propiolactone) (PMPL) or a derivative thereof, wherein the PMPL is polymerized from a plurality of (R)-α-methyl-β-propiolactone monomers and a plurality of (S)-α-methyl-β-propiolactone monomers, wherein the ratio of (R):(S) monomers is from about 90:10 to about 10:90. Changing the (R):(S) ratio impacts the isotactic diad fraction and consequently the crystallinity and thermomechanical properties of the resulting PMPL. The PMPL may be hydroxyl-terminated, with the residue thereof serving as the elastomeric B block in an A:B:A triblock copolymer having hard end A blocks, such as a residue of polylactic acid. The PMPL diol may also be used as a reactant to form an alkoxysilane-terminated polymer, a polyurethane, or a (co)polyester. In some embodiments, such triblock polymers may be entirely bio-sourced and compostable.

Abstract

A hot melt adhesive composition comprises a combination of polymers including a low molecular weight semicrystalline propylene based polymer and a high molecular weight essentially amorphous propylene based polymer, both of which are prepared by using single-site catalysts, along with a wax, a hydrogenated styrene block copolymer, a tackifier, and a plasticizer. The composition has suitable viscosity ranging from 500 cP to 40,000 cP at 177° C. and is useful for a variety of industrial applications where bonding of low surface energy substrates and elastic substrates is encountered, including disposable nonwoven hygienic articles. The cooled adhesive in the laminate does not feel hard but instead has a soft feel, even though the adhesive demonstrates a relatively high Shore A hardness.

Abstract

11 is an alkyl group having at least 8 carbon atoms. The macromolecule may be hydroxy-terminated, and may be copolymerized with other β-lactone monomers having different substituting groups and/or with higher lactone monomers. The macromolecule may be used as a reactant to form an alkoxysilane-terminated polymer, a polyurethane, or a (co)polyester, or may be used as an elastomeric midblock in a triblock copolymer having hard end blocks, such as polylactic acid. Such triblock systems demonstrate two discreet regions having properties similar to styrene block copolymers and are therefore suitable for use as hot melt or pressure-sensitive adhesives. In some embodiments, such triblock polymers may be entirely bio-sourced and compostable.

Abstract

A tackifier-free, hot melt adhesive composition comprises an amorphous, single site-catalyzed, high molecular weight propylene copolymer, preferably with a weight average molecular weight (Mw) greater than 80,000 g/mol; a semicrystalline, single site-catalyzed, low molecular weight propylene copolymer, preferably with an Mw less than 60,000 g/mol; and polyisobutene. The composition may optionally include a plasticizer, a butene-rich copolymer, and an antioxidant. The hot melt adhesive is especially useful for bonding substrates which swell or elongate significantly in use. Such uses include adhering superabsorbent polymers to a substrate or adhering together two substrates, at least one of which has superabsorbent polymers, such as the layers of an absorbent core of a disposable hygiene article, such as a diaper. The composition, which does not contain a tackifier, demonstrates suitable elongation at break, stress retention, and thermal stability, making it well-suited for stabilizing expanded species such as superabsorbent polymers.

Abstract

Adhesives comprising a silyl-terminated polyether and a tackifying resin provide a considerably reduced tack at relatively slight increases in temperature, undergo purely adhesive failure at such increased temperatures, and have reversible properties (i.e., such properties are substantially retained upon cooling). Such adhesives may be used to reversibly bond a first substrate surface coated with the adhesive to a second substrate surface by adhering the substrate surfaces together at a first temperature; heating the adhesive to a second temperature at least about 20° C. above the first temperature and below the thermal degradation temperature; and separating the substrate surfaces from one another at the second temperature, wherein the adhesive comprises the cured product of a silyl-terminated polyether and a tackifier. Such adhesives may also be cleanly transferred from to a different substrate at such elevated temperatures. Such adhesives may be used for tapes suitable for easy removal at elevated temperatures.

Abstract

A semicrystalline copolyester resin composition formed by twin screw extrusion of various ingredients includes copolyester resins, antiblock, slip and antifog additives. This semicrystalline copolyester resin can be extruded on to PET film or coextruded with PET resin to form clear PET films with antifog properties. These films with antifog properties are produced in a single step without the use of solvent and does not involve any secondary step for coating a separate antifog layer. This minimizes the cost and time required by a converter to make such clear antifog films. These films containing the heat seal copolyester resin can be heat sealed to clear APET trays. Contents within the trays, such as food, can be seen without fogging on the inside of the film that is used to seal the tray. The seals are strong and the peels are smooth giving a very good packaging performance.

The invention relates to a two-component thermally conductive composition comprising: a composition (A) comprising: a silyl polymer, and a composition (B) comprising: at least 1% by weight of a filler (C) relative to the total weight of the composition (B), the filler (C) providing at least 0.0025% by weight of moisture relative to the total weight of the composition (B), the composition (A) and/or the composition (B) further comprising at least one thermally conductive filler, and the composition (A) and/or the composition (B) further comprising: a rheology agent (r1) chosen from amide waxes and/or a rheology agent (r2) comprising: from 1% to 40% by weight of a bisurea (a) obtained by reaction of an aliphatic primary amine with a diisocyanate having a molar mass of less than 500 g/mol, relative to the total weight of the rheology agent (r2), and from 60% to 99% by weight of a specific plasticizer (b), relative to the total weight of the rheology agent (r2), said rheology agent (r2) being in the form of a suspension of solid particles of bisurea (a) in a continuous phase of plasticizer (b). The invention also relates to the use of a filler (C) having a specific moisture content, for the crosslinking, without addition of free water, of a two-component composition, the two-component composition comprising a composition (A) comprising a silyl polymer, and a composition (B) comprising said filler (C).
