Abstract

A damping system for a cable disposed within an upper pipe and a lower pipe includes a damper plate assembly connected to the upper pipe, a slider ring connected to and/or supported by the lower pipe, the slider ring having a hole in which the cable is arranged; and a shroud surrounding the damping system at a position where the upper pipe is adjacent to the lower pipe, such that the damper plate assembly and the slider ring are covered by the shroud. In such damping systems, the damper plate assembly and the slider ring are in contact with each other such that the transverse movement of the upper pipe relative to the lower pipe generates a frictional force to reduce an amplitude of the transverse movement of the upper pipe relative to the lower pipe.

Abstract

Disclosed is a fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) cord system and method that is useful for concrete repair and strengthening applications, including the strengthening of concrete slab edges to increase their resistance to lateral loads from extension elements, such as railings, attached to balconies or façades attached to portions of a building. In certain configurations, fiber-reinforced polymer cords are affixed to a concrete structure along an end surface that includes an extension element, with the fiber-reinforced polymer cords positioned on opposite sides of the extension element. In further configurations, fiber-reinforced polymer cords are affixed to adjacent faces of concrete structures. In particularly preferred configurations, the fiber-reinforced polymer cords are situated within grooves that extend into the faces of the concrete structures that are being reinforced.

Abstract

Encapsulated anchor devices, systems, and methods are provided. An exemplary anchor device is used in a system for reinforcing a structure. The exemplary anchor device includes an anchor plate and a wedge. A strand is pulled through the anchor plate, and one portion of the strand is disposed in a first cover and another portion of the strand is bare. The device further includes a protective cover that encapsulates the anchor plate, the strand, and a portion of the first cover.

Abstract

Segmental duct coupler devices, systems, and methods are provided herein. A duct coupler device can include a single, discrete body of material for welding to a duct segment. A system, including a duct segment having a duct coupler device welded thereto, is provided. The connection or points of connection between the duct coupler device and the duct segment in the system are devoid of internal and/or external seals. The duct coupler device and system can be cast in concrete. Multiple concrete segments can be assembled together to form a bridge, a roadway, a building, a slab, or any other structure.
