Abstract

A downhole solids separator having: a plurality of solids separation modules, a production tube disposed therein, one or more limited entry ports in the production tube, placed in each of the modules, an intake port in the lower half of each module opening into a wellbore annulus, the intake port below the limited entry port of the module, a closed chamber for collecting solids, isolated from the well bore, the closed chamber below modules, a solids conveying conduit from at least one module, opening into the closed chamber, an opening restricted to less than the size of the production tube in the conduit near the bottom of the module, an opening in the production tube in the closed chamber, where the production tube opening and conduit opening are configured to effect a drop fluid velocity into production tube to a level insufficient to carry solids into the production tube.

Abstract

An apparatus for gas and solids separation from down-hole fluids having an inner tube and an outer tube disposed about the inner tube. The annular region between the tubes contain a plurality of chambers, separated by fluid barriers. The chambers include an intake chamber to receive fluids from outside of the outer tube through an orifice, and processing chambers. Fluid communication between the intake and processing chambers is restricted to fluid flow through sets of tubes. Fluid communication between a lowermost processing chamber below the intake chamber and a lower processing chamber above the intake chamber is restricted to fluid flow through the inner tube. A block restricts fluid communication within the inner tube to other chambers above the intake chamber. Orifices in the inner tube of the processing chambers on either side of the block provide fluid communication across the block.

Abstract

An apparatus, methods and systems for multi-configuration, multi-stage gas-liquid separation are presented. A production string is fitted with a shroud of size similar to the collars. Gaseous fluids intake into the upper portion of the shroud into a first chamber. Tubes or pipes collect the fluids for transport into the lower portion of a receiving chamber. Another plurality of tubes collect fluids in the portion of the receiving chamber above the first set for transport into a third chamber. Separated gases are collected and disposed. One or more receiving chambers are used. A final set of tubes or pipes transport the processed fluid to the bottom portion of a final chamber for delivery into the production string. The final chamber may be fitted with material-packed cylinders for further gas separation prior to delivery. The material-packed cylinders may be used alone as separators, or in combination with the receiving chambers.
