Abstract

Novel modular smart management devices in the form of drop safes include the modular components of a chassis, door and technology cabinet. The drop safes enable retailers to make cash deposits quickly and safely within or near their own facilities. Various technology, including RFID readers, RFID tags, and other equipment allow the drop safes to identify each deposited bag. Employees utilize specialized apps on their mobile devices to facilitate deposit creation and other tasks. Novel methodologies for accessing the drop safes for emptying employ single-use, time-expiration type authorization codes along with other security measures to minimize risk and to provide other benefits. Novel structures along with methodologies for replacing, on-site, modular components with auto-detection of functionality during initialization and re-initialization enables for efficient replacement and upgrading of components, including the upgrading of safes to provide additional functionality.

Abstract

A process facilitator in communication with a safe located at a first location of an entity external to the process facilitator and further in communication with a banking institution located at a second location external to the process facilitator and different from the first location, wherein the process facilitator functions as an intermediary between the safe and the banking institution in order to reduce the processing requirements on the safe and the improve the efficiency of electronic communications with the banking institution. A system comprising the process facilitator and one or more safes in communication with the process facilitator and using the process facilitator as the intermediary between the safes and the banking institution is also described.

Abstract

A process of facilitating cash collection deposits and deposit tracking includes identifying by a retailer an amount of cash collected by that retailer, including respective amounts of currency by denomination of the collected cash, creating a deposit ticket containing at least a unique identification code associated therewith, depositing the created deposit ticket and the collected cash into a deposit bag, transporting the deposit bag to a cash processing facility, and counting at the cash processing facility the collected cash contained in the transported deposit bag to verify that the amount previously identified by the retailer corresponds to the counted amount. Particularly additional novel features include at least the following: the manner in which the retailer identifies the amount of collected cash; the manner in which the deposit bag may be scheduled for pickup; providing advance credit to the retailer for the cash deposits during various stages of cash handling/processing; and the particular manner of tracking the status of each of the deposit bags of a retailer's multiple stores.

Abstract

An electronic system and process for facilitating a financial transaction comprising a drop safe and a point-of-sale (POS) terminal, disposed at a retailer location, in communication with one another in which the POS terminal receives, from a user, a request to commence a drop request and, in response, instructs the drop safe to commence a drop request, whereupon after acceptance of the drop request the drop safe accepts, via a currency acceptor, currency that is identified and authenticated, and upon completion of the drop, the drop safe ascertains the total amount of accepted currency and transmits the ascertained amount to the POS terminal which then completes the transaction. The drop request may occur during a transaction with a customer for the purchase of goods or services or at other times. Other features are disclosed.

Abstract

Process of and system for providing credit to a retailer (10) by collecting checks from customers during financial transactions between the customers and the retailer, depositing by the retailer the collected checks into a safe (14) located at the retailer facility (10a, 10b, 10c), calculating the total monetary value of the checks that are deposited into the safe, and electronically transmitting a data file that identifies the calculated total monetary value of the deposited checks. Using the information in the transmitted data file, the retailer is credited by a bank (6OA, 6OB, 60C), or other financial institute with the total monetary value of the deposited checks. Crediting may be provided on a business day basis, and other features include imaging of the deposited checks, facilitating check processing using the image files of the checks, displaying the imaged checks on a display at the retailer during the financial transaction, depositing the checks into the same safe into which cash collected by the retailer is deposited, providing the checks within the safe in sealed cassettes, and printing an image of a collected check on a receipt that is provided to the customer. Other features also are described. The process and system advantageously make funds readily available and improves cash flow to retailers who take-in checks as part of their normal business operations.

Abstract

A process for providing bank credit to retailers for cash collections that are carried out during retailers' normal business operations. The process entails a retailer (10) collecting cash over a period of time, such as over a single or multiple business days, generally in exchange for goods and/or services, depositing the collected cash into one or more electronic safes (10a, 10b, 10c) disposed at the retailer's location or locations, calculating at a designated time, such as the end of day at each location, a total amount of cash that has been deposited into the retailer's safes (10a, 10b, 10c) over such period of time, and electronically transmitting data files that identify the calculated total amounts of cash accepted by the retailer (10) over the period of time. The retailer (10) is credited, for example, by a bank (40), with the total cash deposits as reported by the electronic safes (10a, 10b, 10c) at the end of each business day. The process advantageously makes funds readily available and improves cash flow to retailers who take-in cash as part of their normal business operations.

Abstract

A process and system for facilitating cash collection deposits and deposit tracking includes identifying by a retailer (10) an amount of cash collected by that retailer (10), including respective amounts of currency by denomination of the collected cash, creating a deposit ticket containing at least a unique identification code associated therewith, depositing the created deposit ticket and the collected cash into a deposit bag, transporting the deposit bag to a cash processing facility (30), and counting at the cash processing facility (30) the collected cash contained in the transported deposit bag to verify that the amount previously identified by the retailer (10) corresponds to the counted amount. Particularly additional novel features include at least the following: the manner in which the retailer (10) identifies the amount of collected cash; the manner in which the deposit bag may be scheduled for pickup; providing advance credit to the retailer (10) for the cash deposits during various stages of cash handling/processing; and the particular manner of tracking the status of each of the deposit bags of a retailer' s multiple stores.
