Abstract

A passive damper with a first set of parallel disposed plates and a second set of parallel disposed plates, that overlap one another in an alternating fashion at a rotational joint with damping pads between the plates. The rotational joint comprises a pin or bolt inserted through apertures in the plates and there is a connection hole in each of the plates of the second set of plates for receiving a connection pin (6) therein for connecting the second set of plates to a members of a structure. The connection holes in a selection of the plates of the second set of plates is shaped and dimensioned to provide a predetermined amount of clearance with said connection pin so that the connection pin can move inside the connection holes of the selection of plates taking part in the damping action of the damper.
