There is provided a locking device to inhibit loosening of screw action fasteners. The device includes a resilient wire forming a single coil for releasably mounting the device onto a first fastener. The wire also has first and second end portions extending tangentially from the coil and across one another to provide first and second lever portions, respectively. The lever portions can be pressed together to loosen the coil, in order to enable its location over, or removal from, the first fastener. Otherwise, the coil grips the first fastener when it is located thereover, thereby to mount the device onto the first fastener such that movement of the device relative to the first fastener is inhibited. The first end portion has a hook configured to abut and partially surround an adjacent, second fastener in the plane of rotation of the first fastener.

There is provided a rotation indicator device for mounting onto a fastener, such as a wheel nut. The device includes a resilient wire forming a coil for releasably mounting the device onto a fastener. The wire has end portions that converge from the coil toward a common point. The coil is loosened by pulling apart of the end portions to enable its location over, or removal from, the fastener. The coil otherwise grips the fastener when located thereover, to mount the device onto the fastener such that movement of the device relative to the fastener is inhibited. At least when mounted onto a fastener, the end portions terminate adjacent one another to form a pointer on a side of the device for indicating the orientation of the device relative to a reference.

A rotation indicator device, for mounting on a nut or a bolt head which has a periphery of polygonal shape and which is rotatable relative to a fixed position member, to indicate rotation relative to the fixed position member, the device comprising a flexible strip (10) attached to a laterally projecting indicator (12). A first ratchet-toothed section (22) is provided which serves as a tongue. A second ratchet-toothed section (32) is provided in a channel (35). The channel has an open side so that the tongue is insertable through the channel to form the flexible strip to the size of the nut or bolt head by engagement of the opposed ratchet- toothed sections, but the tongue is releasable from the channel by lifting in an upward direction from a common plane of the flexible strip and out of the open side of the channel.
For indicating rotational displacement between an Allen bolt having a bolt head (34) provided with a central recess (36) for engagement by a fastening/unfastening tool, namely an Allen key, and a substrate to which the bolt is fastened, thereby to indicate whether the bolt has loosened, a safety indicating device is provided comprising a body (10) having a bore formed with splines (12) for engagement over the bolt head (34). The body (10) also has an end closure (14) formed with a plug (16) projecting inwardly of the bore for snug engagement into the central recess (36) of the bolt head. An indicator is also provided on the body (10). This is typically a pointer (18) mounted or formed on the body and projecting laterally, but it could be an indicator which is merely marked or formed on the body without projecting outwards. The plug (16) may itself be formed with the recess (26) which may be used for insertion of a different tool to effect rotational adjustment of the position of the device upon the bolt head (34).

For mounting on a wheel nut or similar a rotation indicator device comprises a body of one piece construction having an annular portion (10) to releasably fit in non-rotatable manner onto the nut and having an end wall portion (14) provided with an indicator. The indicator is provided within the periphery of the device, at a position which, in use, overlies the nut to which it is fitted, by having at least one opening in the end wall portion with free edges (18) configured as the indicator (e.g. pointer with tip (20)). The one piece device may also include side walling (12) of part annular configuration extending between the annular portion (10) and the end wall portion (14) with the free edges (18) being where the side walling (12) is not connected to the end portion (14).
