A grabbing mechanism may be configured to secure a produce item and to position the produce item within the coupling area of the rotating drive. The grabbing mechanism may include an arm that is configured to rotate away from the second section of the produce item. Furthermore, a removable blade guard may be used control the depth at which the blade penetrates the produce item.
