In one aspect, the disclosure provides a device for treatment of a lubricating fluid, the device including a housing (e.g., a filter housing) forming a cavity therein, the housing including an inlet port, an outlet port, and a liquid path extending through the cavity from the inlet port to the outlet port; and immobilized active material disposed in the liquid path between the inlet port and the outlet port, the active material being configured to interact physicochemically with one or more contaminants in a lubricating fluid that passes through the device, the active material being insoluble in the lubricating fluid.
