Abstract
The invention to which this application relates a method and apparatus for the reuse and/or recycling of liner material layers (30) from a label supply which typically includes the liner material layer and a label supply material (28) in which the labels are formed and from which the labels are subsequently applied to one or more articles. The invention allows the separation and processing and recycling of the liner material layer which, otherwise and conventionally would be treated as waste. The invention allows this to be achieved without the need for the application of any material to the label supply following the formation of the same. In one embodiment the recycling can be in the form of forming the liner material into a raw material for subsequent processing or, alternatively, using the liner material as an adhesive tape or, alternatively, directly reusing the liner material layer as part of another label supply.

Abstract
The invention relates to the application of labels (8) from a supply of labels (2) which are defined in sheet material (6) and in which adjacent labels are joined together by a line of weakening (14) to form a continuous label supply. The label sheet material is provided with a layer of adhesive which contacts with a backing layer (10) to form the label supply. The leading label (8') is provided with a leading edge portion (38) detached from the backing layer (10) for application at an application point (22) to an article (20) and the article and label feed movement are controlled such that the remainder of the label can be detached from the backing layer, and the line of weakening broken effectively and accurately and without the need for the sheet material of the label supply and /or backing layer to have a thickness to provide the level of rigidity or stiffness of the material which is conventionally required, thereby reducing material usage and wastage.

Abstract
The invention relates to apparatus which can be used to apply self adhesive labels (2) from a label supply (14,100), with said apparatus requiring no or very little alteration to allow the same to be used to apply labels which are provided on a backing layer or labels which are provided from a linerless label supply. This allows the use of the apparatus to be significantly wide ranging whilst ensuring that the accuracy of application is still maintained.

Abstract
The invention which is the subject of this application is apparatus and a method for the application of labels to articles-, via adhesive or other mechanical location means. The labels are provided in a label supply (2) with respective labels (8) defined by a line of weakening (6) formed by slits (12) or perforations and the line of weakening includes at least one aperture (12) provided for engagement by a tool (12) at the time when the line of weakening is required to be broken to separate the leading label and allow the same to be applied to the article.
