Abstract
The present invention proposes a protocol based on multiple transmission and contention rounds that schedules several transmission rounds after the contention phase is completed. The multiple transmission rounds reduce the sending of control packets and substantially increase the cross traffic on the uplink to the AP. The supporting analytical expressions for determining the traffic carried of the proposed protocol demonstrate through simulation that about 94% of the ideal throughput of available throughput can be achieved by using as few as four transmission rounds during the transmission period.

Abstract
The present invention discloses the discovery of the genes that direct the biosynthetic pathway of leupeptin, a potent protease inhibitor of the type of small peptide aldehyde (SPA). The prediction of genes that direct the biosynthesis of leupeptin was performed by EvoMining, a bioinformatic pipeline for genome mining of natural products that is based on evolutionary parameters, and was confirmed by molecular biology techniques such as insertional mutagenesis and comparison of metabolomic profiles between wild strains (producers of leupeptin) and mutant strains (non-producers of leupeptin). The leupeptin-coding biosynthetic genes contained in the isolated cluster according to the present invention were heterologously expressed in E. coli, thus achieving the production of leupeptin.

Abstract
The present invention describes synergic compositions useful for the treatment of pancreatic cancer comprising combination of the compounds: Formula I, Formula II or pharmaceutically active salts thereof, which induce cytotoxicity in primary pancreatic cancer cell lines and cultures greater than that obtained for the compounds evaluated individually, thus making same a viable, effective and useful alternative for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. The antineoplastic evaluation of the compositions described showed the specificity thereof for primary pancreatic cancer cell lines and cultures, without affecting primary non-cancerous cell lines and cultures, decreasing the activation of K-Ras4B and the signalling pathways for same, whereby said antineoplastic activities improved with the synergic antineoplastic effect of the combinations of compounds C14 and P8, thereby almost completely erradicating the presence of pancreatic cancer tumours in preclinical models without exhibiting adverse effects or genotoxicity. The synergic compositions of the invention are novel pharmacological alternatives against pancreatic cancer with better properties than conventional chemotherapy.

Abstract
The present invention describes a portable thermocycler for RT-qPCR (dubbed HybOT Cycler) that integrates thermal control, illumination, and fluorescence detection into a highly integrated hybrid module, simplifying its assembly. The HybOT Cycler is wirelessly controlled from an application installed in a tablet. We characterized its thermal performance and fluorescence sensitivity and found it to behave similarly to benchtop thermocyclers. We developed a bubble-free microfluidic device that can be easily replicated from an acrylic mold to run the PCR assays. Degassing the PCR chambers for 3 min at 350 KPa with a portable vacuum pump prevented any bubbles during the assay. Both the instrument and the microfluidic mold are fabricated with digital fabrication tools and off-the-shelf electronics. Concentrations as low as 103 copies/µL of the SARS-CoV-2 N1 gene were detected. We then used our platform to screen individuals infected with the virus, reaching a sensitivity of 95% and specificity of 100%. Our portable platform can assist in diagnosing of SARS-CoV-2 and other pathogens, and its simple configuration and assembly can lead to quick adoption by labs around the world.

Abstract
The invention describes vaccines useful for the prevention of COVID-19, wherein recombinant antigens of non-glycosylated domains in the S-RBD region encoded in the SARS-CoV-2 virus genome of both the original Wuhan virus strain and the B.1.1.7 (UK) and B.1.351 (South African) virus strain variants were designed and expressed. The purified antigens of the invention were able to induce the production of polyclonal antibodies in animals, as well as a strong immune response, even by means of nasal and/or intranasal administration. Additionally, IgG antibodies that recognise said antigens were detected in sera from recovered COVID-19 patients. The invention highlights the usefulness of the antigens based on the non-N-glycosylated region of the RBD of SARS-CoV-2 for the development of monovalent and/or polyvalent vaccines effective against COVID-19, for the diagnosis of said illness, and for the prevention and immunotherapy thereof by means of the production and use of monovalent and/or polyvalent anti-COVID-19 hyperimmune plasmas and/or sera.

Abstract
Broadband channel emulation is currently carried out by channel executions based on dispersion functions dictated by communication standards with the purpose of performing tests and validating new communication schemes. However, the channel models available in the prior art consider only the simulation of channel which has stationary statistics and wherein the dispersion is separable, allowing only unrealistic channel simulations. The present invention describes a method and apparatus for emulating doubly selective scene channels, wherein the simulation and emulation has a randomly long duration for a stationary or non-stationary channel, with non-separable dispersion. The above is achieved by combining the techniques of channel orthogonalisation, decomposition of the correlation tensor in the Doppler variable in frequency-dependent correlation matrices, followed by a matrix factorisation of each of the aforementioned matrices and, finally, the use of the window method in order to be able to generate randomly long executions. This makes it possible to concatenate channel executions coming from same or different NSDFs, thus reproducing stationary or non-stationary channels, respectively.

Abstract
The invention describes a method and apparatus for generating single-hand multi-h CPM signal waveforms, in which all the signal-generation parameters can be reconfigured. This apparatus amply beats the transmitters disclosed in the prior art, such as that based on memories and that based on integration, in terms of hardware resource consumption, while also having reliable performance in terms of SQNR for any of the implementations. The described generation methodology is divided into two steps: one associated with the moving average term and one with the autoregressive term. The present invention proposes a generation of the autoregressive term based on digital signal processing and memory elements. The proposed method for generating CPM signals is carried out by DSP and memory elements in order to improve the cases in which the transmitter based only on DSP has poor performance in terms of SQNR. When the symbols to be transmitted are multiplied by the one or more modulating indices, the product is sent to an interpolation filter, which responds to the pulse with the PSR of the CPM scheme. On the other hand, in the autoregressive section, the symbols to be transmitted are multiplied by the numerator of the one or more modulation indices in order to generate a change in the current position of the phase. The sum of the outputs of the autoregressive term obtained from memory elements and the autoregressive term generated by the interpolation filter is used as an argument for the normalised sine and cosine functions.

Abstract
The invention relates to a communication system and method for overcoming the distortions and effects introduced by the V2V communication channels. In contrast to any existing invention operating under the same conditions, the described apparatus uses a completely novel receiving technique based on the concept of non-linear detection of signals with frequency dispersion. The receiver of this apparatus can achieve a level of performance such that it efficiently exploits the diversity in frequency, together with the band structure of the equivalent channel matrix. The performance achieved in terms of noise immunity is much better than any technique that has been found up to now and also requires a much smaller number of calculations in the receiver.

Abstract
The invention relates to a method and apparatus for emulating channels having time-selective and arbitrary dispersion scenarios (channels with isotropic and non-isotropic distributions in the angle of arrival or, otherwise, asymmetric and non-asymmetric channels with spectral power densities and which are affected by Doppler shifts). The present invention also allows arbitrarily long channel realisations to be generated for channels having non-stationary statistics, allowing real channels to be emulated. Stationary and non-stationary channels are simulated by concatenating independent sequences and by applying a window to the sequences generated, using a forming filter that enables this type of model to be implemented in time-selective channel emulators by means of hardware. The sequences are channel realisations obtained using any method for generating stochastic processes such as: adding orthogonal functions, adding sine waves/cosine waves, filtering, Fourier transform, etc.

Abstract
The invention relates to a system and method for overcoming the distortions and effects introduced by the highly variant channels of one or more antennas in the transmitter as well as in the receiver. It uses a reception technique based on the concept of virtual trajectories which does not require iterative calculations or the solution of linear systems in operating time, thus saving a considerable number of operations. The receiver of this apparatus makes it possible to convert the rapid variations of the channel into virtual antennas, considerably increasing the signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio. The performance obtained in terms of noise immunity is much better than any known technique and also requires a much smaller number of calculations in the receiver.

Abstract
Streptomyces lividans 66, which we have called livipeptin. Using genome mining of natural products, we predicted that SLI0883-5 genes encode an unprecedented biosynthetic system, unusually small (4.6 Kbp), which produces an acylated peptide aldehyde. Because of the chemical characteristics of the predicted compound, we postulated its anti-proteolytic activity, which we confirmed by identifying and purifying this compound through metabolic profiles of HPLC and MS of the mutated strain lacking these three genes and the wild strain. To this objective, we identified the conditions wherein these genes are strongly expressed. The livipeptin was purified and its inhibitory activity on the proteolytic activity of selected proteases was demonstrated in vitro. The design of an expression cassette for its heterologous expression is also described plus its use for heterologous protein production.

Abstract
A modified orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) communication system based on virtual decomposition of the channel is proposed. The system is fully compatible with standard OFDM transmitters and maintains several blocks of standard OFDM receivers. The proposed approach achieves also incoherent reception of multicarrier signals even with a simple autocovariance DPSK detector. This novel system substantially surpasses the performance of current approaches while requiring low computational complexity. Two preferred embodiments are described; one with coherent reception using pilot signals, and the second with incoherent receiver of differentially encoded signals.

Abstract
The present invention describes the discovery of the genes that direct the biosynthetic pathway of leupeptin, a potent protease inhibitor of the type of small peptide aldehyde (SPA). The prediction of genes that direct the biosynthesis of leupeptin was performed by EvoMining, a bioinformatic pipe for genome data mining of natural products based on evolutionary parameters and was confirmed by molecular biology techniques such as insertional mutagenesis and the comparison of metabolomic profiles between wild strains (producers of leupeptin) and mutants (non producers of leupeptin). Biosynthetic genes of leupeptin were cloned and expressed heterologously in other expression systems of bacterial origin, thus achieving the production of leupeptin. It also describes the design of a cassette for heterologous production of leupeptin and its use for producing leupeptin and variants of it using synthetic biology, and to produce recombinant proteins.

Abstract
The invention describes the computational automation of baseball, which is supported on a finite state automaton and a formal language for describing any correct play. Using this automaton and this language ensure the mathematically correct modelling and implementation of the algorithms for computer simulation of a baseball game. For algorithmic automation of baseball according to the invention, a formal grammar is defined that translates the rules of the baseball game; by using said grammar, a formal language is generated to describe any possible play during a baseball game. This formal language is read by the corresponding state automaton. Also, a generator of baseball plays creates the plays based on average probability occurrence of each of these plays in games played by humans in professional tournaments. Therefore, plays such as "STRIKES", "FOULS", "HITS", "HOMERUN", including the number of runs, etc., occur according the rules of the game and with the average frequency with which would occur in real life matches.

Abstract
The present invention describes a new peptide aldehyde produced naturally by Streptomyces lividans 66, which we have called livipeptin. Using genome mining of natural products, we predicted that SLl0883-5 genes encode an unprecedented biosynthetic system, unusually small (4.6 Kbp), which produces an acylated peptide aldehyde.

Abstract
The present invention relates to methods for identifying bean plants tolerant to drought. This method is based on the molecular and physiological evaluation of plants, which are exposed to water stress. The molecular evaluation is performed by identifying and quantifying the m RNAs of genes accumulated under water stress and the physiological evaluation by measuring the photosynthesis. For the development of the present invention, we took as study model the Pinto Villa bean variety from which various different nucleotide sequences of 44 genes were identified, overexpressing in the bean plants when these are exposed to water stress. Therefore, it represents the value of employing said sequences as molecular markers useful to identify bean plants tolerant to drought. This invention allows assisting the selection of drought tolerant plants with molecular markers and physiological parameters in bean seedlings, without having to wait for the occurrence of the life cycle of the plant, by that reducing the time of identification of drought tolerant plants noticeably.

Abstract
Abstract. This invention relates to a high-capacity data hiding method for audio signals following the OFDM concept. It is based on changing the phase component of the audio signal via an M-order Phase Shift Keying (MPSK) modulator on selected frequency samples of the audio signal. This approach allows the data hiding capacity and perceptual distortion to be controlled by the number of altered frequency components of the audio signal and the severity of this alteration. The data hiding capacity can be estimated a priori independently of the audio signal features. In addition, due to the relation of the proposed scheme with the traditional use of MPSK modulation, the BER of the encoded data is analytically derived, therefore, it is known in advance, allowing the integration of channel encoders. Results obtained with representative test cases show that the proposed algorithm provides an increase of one order of magnitude in data payload compared with state-of-the-art works.

Abstract
The present invention describes efficient and low cost fermentation methods for the efficient production of medium chain poli-3-hydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), which comprise the growth of microorganisms producing PHAs using vegetable oils as carbon source, either in the presence or absence of saccharide. The methods of the invention comprise producing biomass in batch culture, subsequently producing biomass in fedbatch culture by means of the addition of saccharide and a nitrogen source to the culture medium and finally producing PHAs by means of the addition of vegetal oil as carbon source with limitation of nitrogen or phosphorus. By means of the method of the invention, at least 90% in dry weight of medium chain PHAs with respect to dry biomass is obtained from the culture medium, presenting from 5 to 10% of medium chain monomeric units in their structure.

Abstract
The present invention describes a scan adiabatic resistive calorimeter (SARC) 1 with ohm heating of the sample 20, which measures the heating enthalpy and is formed of an inner cylinder 11 and a couple of pistons 15 and 16, thus forming said elements a cylindrical chamber hermetically closed 10, which avoids that during its operation can be material losses by leaks. Pistons 15 and 16 have, in one of their ends an electrode 31 and 36 respectively and they pass the electrical heating flow through the sample 20. In reference to this electric flow, the applied power is calculated and therefore, the supplied heat to the sample 20, which is equal to the specific enthalpy. To assure that the whole of the electric flow is conducted through the sample 20, the inner cylinder 11 is electrically isolated. The SARC 1 with ohm heating of the sample 20 is formed additionally of a spring with which the pressure of the experiment can be controlled and of instruments that include actuators 60, sensors and the necessary conditioning to make available in a computer 81, added to the calorimeter, the control objects and the controlled variables.

Abstract
The invention relates to a method of using a bipolar transistor as a self-calibrated thermometer and/or temperature sensor, which is immune to errors generated by parasitic elements such as ideality factors or resistances, and to the development thereof. According to the invention, the collector current values, ICmi as a function of direct base-emitter voltage VEbmi, are plotted in the form of the product ICmi(VEBmi) x exp(-qVEBmi/kT0), as a function of bas-emitter voltage VEB. T0 is a parameter which ensures that a region of the aforementioned graph has zero slope, while simultaneously representing the absolute temperature of the transistor at the moment at which the collector current ICmi is obtained as a function of voltage VEbmi.
