Transfer machine and use thereof in a poultry house for transferring incubated eggs to a floor thereof
The transfer machine comprises an input and output system (8) for inserting trays filled with incubated eggs into the transfer machine and for removing the emptied trays therefrom and a transfer system (9) for transferring the eggs from the trays to the floor of the poultry house. The transfer system (9) comprises a set of egg pickup members (28) mounted on a first sub-frame (30). The first sub-frame (30) is mounted on a second sub-frame (31) such that it can move up and down, the second sub-frame mounted on the frame (5) of the machine such that it can move back and forth between a first position, wherein the set of egg pickup members (28) is above the filled trays that have been inserted, and a second position, wherein the set of egg pickup members (28) is above the floor of the poultry house.
A transfer machine, the setter trays being placed with set eggs on a carrying mechanism. The carrying mechanism positions the setter trays under a transfer mechanism that includes a series of egg pick-ups. By moving the transfer mechanism down towards the eggs, the egg pick-ups can pick up the eggs and lift them out of the setter trays.

A method is provided, wherein the eggs which are pre-incubated in setter trays are transferred to the poultry house in these setter trays. In the poultry house, a layer of insulating covering material is provided on the floor of the poultry house, in one or more strips. The covering material comprises, in particular, litter which is applied in a layer thickness of at least 2 cm. By a set of egg pickup members of a transfer machine, the pre-incubated eggs are removed in the poultry house from the setter trays, after which they are positioned on the covering material by the transfer machine. In this way, the eggs can be placed in the poultry house efficiently, with a minimal risk of damage to the eggs a high hatching rate being ensured.
To produce chicks from hatching eggs, the eggs are incubated in a hatcher incubator. After hatching, chicks of lesser quality are screened out, and the remaining chicks are transferred to a poultry barn. During the first week in the barn, a number of chicks are lost. When the loss rate exceeds a certain value, treatment with antibiotics is usually applied. Methods and compositions for reducing the loss rate during the first week and thus the number of antibiotic treatments are disclosed. The methods include providing in the air of the hatcher incubator at least during a final stage of the incubation and hatching of the eggs in the hatcher incubator, an active amount of a pheromone composition with the appeasing effect of the mother hen pheromone. The pheromone composition can be applied in the hatcher incubator at a specific height in the form of a formulation.
A transfer machine (1), the setter trays (2) being placed with set eggs on a carrying mechanism (7), said carrying mechanism (7) positioning the setter trays (2) under a transfer mechanism (14) that includes a series of egg pickup means (19). By moving the transfer mechanism (14) down towards the eggs, the egg pickup means (19) can pick up the eggs and lift them out of the setter trays. After this, the carrying mechanism (7) can be moved out of the path of the transfer mechanism (14), whereby the eggs, by a downward movement of the transfer mechanism (14), are brought near the floor, where the egg pickup means (19) release the eggs so that they lie on the floor. As a result, the eggs, when lifted from the setter trays, only undergo a downward movement, which results in a lower risk of damaging the eggs compared to a lateral movement of the eggs when they are out of the setter trays and thus can come into contact with each other.

The container (1) is preferably on wheels (8) and includes at least three levels (3) on which the pre-incubated eggs can hatch. Furthermore, it is provided with a transport system for removing the hatched chicks from the container (1) from the various levels (3) of the container (1). This transport system is in particular a drop system which includes, for example, gutter- shaped chutes (10) or other elements to prevent the chicks from getting hurt when falling or sliding out of the container (1). Before the eggs hatch, the container (1) is placed in the poultry house such that the newly hatched chicks will end up directly in the poultry house. The chicks therefore immediately have water and feed at their disposal and also have all the space and rest needed to grow and develop optimally.
To produce chicks from hatching eggs, these hatching eggs are incubated (during the setting stage), after which they are incubated and hatched (during the hatching stage) in a hatcher incubator (1). After hatching, the chicks are taken out of the hatcher incubator (1), after which chicks of lesser quality are screened out and the remaining chicks are placed in transport containers with which they are transferred to a poultry bam where they are first given water and feed. During the first week in the bam, a number of chicks are lost, where when the loss rate exceeds a certain value, treatment with antibiotics is usually applied. According to the invention, at least during a final stage of the further incubation and hatching of the eggs in the hatcher incubator, an active amount of a pheromone composition with the appeasing effect of the mother hen pheromone is provided in the air in the hatcher incubator. In this way, the loss rate during the first week and thus the number of antibiotic treatments can be reduced.
