In the service brake position (S) the engagement members (7, 11) are mechanically disengaged, and the central transmission gear (3) is free to rotate independent of the second engagement member (11). In the parking brake position (P) the engagement members (7, 11) are mechanically engaged to prevent the central transmission gear (3) from rotating in the brake deactivating direction.

Abstract

The invention relates to a drum brake device of a road vehicle, in particular for a motor vehicle. Said drum brake can operate as a service brake and as a parking or emergency brake. In service brake mode, a first actuator separates two movable ends of the brake shoes mounted on a plate that can rotate relative to the drum, while the opposite ends thereof both abut against an anchor element, performing a "simplex" type operation. According to the invention, the mechanism of said drum brake is mounted on a plate provided such as to be able to receive, as required: a stop plate which can be used as an anchor element for the simplex mode, in service brake mode by actuating the first actuator and in parking brake mode by pulling a lever actuated by a cable; or a second actuator separates the abutment ends of the brake shoes from one another while the movable ends thereof engage one another by means of a free element inserted relative to the plate, performing a "duo servo" type operation. The invention also relates to a vehicle including such a drum brake, and to a method for assembling such a drum brake including a step of selecting between mounting a basic stop plate or a second actuator.

Abstract

The invention relates to a "dual-mode" drum brake for a vehicle, which operates as a service brake in simplex mode and as a parking brake in duo servo mode. The invention also relates to a vehicle including such a drum brake, and to a method for assembling such a drum brake. When operating as a service brake, a first actuator separates two movable ends of the brake shoes while the opposite ends thereof both abut with the housing of a second actuator. When operating as a parking brake, said second actuator separates the two abutting ends from one another, while the movable ends engage one another via a floating inserted element, for example a wear-adjusting rod. All braking or holding torque is transmitted to the plate by the abutment end of a single brake shoe, by engaging, on one side, the housing of the second actuator. The second actuator uses two pistons, one of which is a "spring package", moved by a screw-and-nut system driven by a pre-assembled sub-assembly of gears with axes that are all parallel to the movement of the pistons. The system is driven, on the other side of the plate, by an electric motor-reducer with double planetary gearset sharing a single ring gear.

Abstract

The invention relates to a motor-reducer (5) driving an actuator provided for separating brake shoes of a drum brake for a vehicle, as well as a drum brake and a vehicle including said motor-reducer. Said motor-reducer includes an electric motor (52) driving an output shaft (557) via a planetary reduction mechanism (55), which are contained in an elongate motor-reducer casing (51). According to the invention, the electric motor (52) is positioned longitudinally inside a recess (25) which has shape, size and motor attachment features suitable for receiving any of a plurality of models of electric motors having different diameters. The invention also relates to a method for assembling such a drum brake including a step of selecting an electric motor and a cylindrical fitting shell which matches the motor. Specifically, said motor-reducer drives an actuator mounted in a drum brake in order to provide operation in "duo servo" mode. Said drum brake can be built into a "drum in hat" composite brake. The drum brake can also form a dual-mode drum brake, operating in "simplex" mode as a service brake and in "duo servo" mode as a parking brake.

Abstract

The invention relates to an actuator with a screw-and-nut system, in particular for actuating the brake shoes of a drum brake of a motor vehicle. The invention also relates to a drum brake and a braking device provided with such an actuator. The linear actuator includes a transmission sub-assembly driven by a rotary motor and driving a linear actuator assembly. Said assembly includes a rotary element and a second element engaging with one another by means of respective male and female threads in order to form a screw-and-nut system. The actuator is arranged such as to press the brake shoes selectively against the drum of the brake, separating the first ends of the brake shoes from one another when the rotary element is rotated via the transmission sub-assembly. The helix angle β of the threads of the screw-and-nut system is smaller than the angle of friction φ, with a deviation of no more than 3% of the value of the angle of friction, for example β = 0.98 x φ.
