Abstract

A sorption media with a high capacity to remove heavy metals, lead, and mercury, in particular when synthesized from a titanium source that contains sulfur, such as black liquor or titanyl sulfate (TiOSO4). The use of sulfur provides a higher than expected capacity for Pb and/or Hg. A Group 1 and/or Group 2 metal-titanosilicate is employed, having a Ti to Si molar ratio of 0.5-2, a pore volume of at least less than or equal to 0.25 cc/g.

Abstract

In a latent heat controlled toaster and process of toasting, the toaster includes at least one heating element. A controller receives electrical measurements including at least one of a voltage or a current and calculates a power delivered to the at least one heating element. The controller iteratively accumulates a system energy from the calculated power over time. The controller compares the accumulated system energy to a target energy and ends the toasting process when the accumulated system energy reaches the target energy.

Abstract

An infrared toaster and a method of toasting use a support configured to hold a food product relative to an infrared source. A light source and a camera are arranged relative to the support to illuminate the food product and capture digital images of the food product. A processor receives and analyzes successive images from the camera. The processor operates the IR source to achieve a predetermined toasting level of the food product. The processor operates the IR source to terminate operation directing IR energy when the predetermined toasting level is reached.

Abstract

A filter composition effective in reacting with airborne or gaseous organic impurities, such as formaldehyde. The filter composition is formed from a filter substrate, such as for example, a fibrous web or extruded carbon block, treated with tris-(hydroxymethyl) aminomethane. The unexpected result of this combination is a longer lasting filter capable of adsorbing organic airborne impurities for a much longer period of time than an untreated filter media of the same type. The removal of formaldehyde is presented as an illustrious example.

Abstract

Systems and methods of bun holding and toasting use a bun dispenser and a toaster. The bun dispenser includes a bun holding cabinet in which a plurality of buns are held on shelves and each of the shelves include conveyors. A shuttle of the bun dispenser translates within at least one axis to align the shuttle with a shelf to receive a bun. A dispensing shelf of the bun dispenser receives the bun from the shuttle. A toaster receives the bun from the dispensing shelf and operates to toast the bun and dispense the toasted bun at a predetermined location.

Abstract

A filter media for implementation in a sugar purification process that allows for a significant increase in sorbent material while maintaining, and enhancing the decolorization and hydraulic properties. The filter media incorporates sorbent material, fiber having specific properties that allows for small particle sorbent material without jeopardizing the hydraulic properties of the media, and an electrolyte. The sorbent material is an inorganic, an adsorption, or ion exchange media, or a metal-organic framework. The implementation of this filter media in a sugar purification process eliminates the need for a clarification step during refining while providing for enhanced decolorization and hydraulic properties for fluid flow.

Abstract

A system and method utilizing a robotic arm to prepare a food product such as a meat for cooking and then subsequently assembling a sandwich from the cooked meat is disclosed. In addition, the robotic arm may also be used to wrap the assembled sandwich in a wrapper. The system may utilize a wire basket with a basket adapter, or handle, to allow the robotic arm to easily maneuver the basket and also utilize a wrapping assist device to wrap a wrapper around the assembled sandwich.

Abstract

A heat transfer system and a broiler that includes a heat transfer system include a heat source. The heat transfer system includes a mixing chamber that surrounds the heat source. An air inlet provides a flow of pressurized air into the mixing chamber. The mixing chamber directs the flow of air past the heat source for direct heating of the flow of air by the heat source. The flow of air is further directed out of the mixing chamber through an outlet to impinge upon a food product.

Abstract

A bun separator separates pre-sliced buns into portions. A bun feeder receives a pre-sliced bun having a plurality of portions and moves the pre-sliced bun along a first feed path. An obstruction is arranged relative to the first feed path and engages at least one portion of the plurality of portions of the pre-sliced bun.

Abstract

Disclosed herein are a shaft assembly having a dry well and a gearbox incorporating the shaft assembly. The shaft assembly may include a housing having an opening and a lubricant reservoir. A tubular member may be fixed in the opening and extend above a surface of lubricant that collects in the lubricant reservoir during operation. At least one sealing member may be positioned between the tubular member and an inner wall defining the opening. A solid shaft may extend through the tubular member and have an outer diameter that is smaller than an inner diameter of the tubular member, thereby defining a dry well between the solid shaft and the tubular member. A bearing mount may be arranged about the tubular member and may be removably connected to a gear associated with the solid shaft. A method of assembling a gearbox incorporating the shaft assembly is also disclosed.

Abstract

A precoat filtration element for a condensate polisher system that yields high weld strength in the form of a septa having a core with a plurality of perforations and wound filter elements, the wound filter elements wound around said core, and the septa including an extension flange at one end; and an end fitting having a solid base and a threaded post, the end fitting being slideably engaged within the extension flange such that an outside wall of the solid base is in mechanical contact with an inside wall of said extension flange, and upon insertion, the threaded post is coaxial with the septa center axis, and extends longitudinally outwards away from said septa. Spot welding the end fitting solid base to the extension flange provides high tensile strength over prior art designs.

Abstract

An underdrain filter or strainer for use with power generation and ion exchange facilities, such as, but not limited to, deep bed demineralizers used in nuclear power plants deep bed ion exchangers. The filter is fabricated from a sintered, stainless steel mesh or wire-cloth filter media having a pore structure with pore size ranging approximately from one micron to two hundred microns. The filter media is composed of a plurality of filter media layers including a perforated inner core bonded to at least one drainage wire mesh, a filtration wire mesh, and a protective wire mesh forming an outer diameter, the layers being diffusion bonded to form a single monolithic laminate.

Abstract

A dispenser for viscous liquids effectuates sequential operations by hydrostatic pressure on an assembly of two pistons separated from each other in a cylinder by a separation spring. When the piston assembly is embedded in material to be dispensed, the space between the pistons fills with material to be dispensed. Pressuring the reservoir by squeezing it or by the addition of pressurized gas, forces the piston assembly down the cylinder at the end of which is an opening from which material in the piston assembly can escape. One of the pistons moves toward the other end by pressure from the reservoir, causing material in the piston assembly to be dispensed. The volume inside the piston assembly defines and limits the volume of material that can be dispensed.
