Abstract

A handheld appliance for emitting steam to treat a fabric has a housing, a water reservoir, a pump, and a steam generator operatively connected to the pump. The housing has an annular steam emitting head having a hole passing through the steam head. The steam head has an outlet with a shape surrounding the hole so that steam inside the steam head is emitted out of the steam head through the outlet around the hole. A handheld appliance for emitting steam to treat a fabric also has a housing having a water reservoir, a pump, a steam generator operatively connected to the pump, and an outlet. The steam generator forms a steam path that has a first layer that extends from an inlet into the steam generator on a first side of a heater to a second layer that is on a second side of the heater opposite to the first layer.

Abstract

A hair cutting system includes a handle defining a longitudinal axis, a strut mounted to the handle and a hair cutting blade assembly coupled to the strut. The cutting blade assembly includes a stationary blade defining cutting teeth having blade edges and a movable blade defining cutting teeth having blade edges and capable of reciprocal movement relative to the stationary blade in a horizontal direction. The movable blade and the stationary blade are movable relative to each other in a longitudinal direction to adjust a longitudinal position of the movable blade relative to the stationary blade to selectively vary a distance between the blade edges of the stationary blade and the blade edges of the movable blade.

A releasable lock is configured to selectively lock and release the stationary blade and the movable blade with respect to each other in the longitudinal direction.

Abstract

An apparatus for sequentially and individually heating hair rollers incorporates a turn tray having a plurality of receptacles. The turn tray rotates, and if a roller is disposed in the receptacle, the turn tray will stop at a steam stage area where the roller is subjected to heat and steam. After a predetermined of time selected by the operator, e.g., when the hair roller is sufficiently treated with heat and steam, the roller is removed and applied to a length of hair of the operator. The turn tray will then automatically rotate to place the next successive roller within the steam stage area.

Abstract

A method of removing a tattoo from skin of a human subject. The method has the step of applying to a region of the skin having the tattoo a reducing composition that includes a reducing agent and a penetration enhancer in admixture. The penetration enhancer is present in an amount effective to effect penetration of at least at least a portion of the reducing agent through the skin to the location of the tattoo. The reducing agent is present in an amount effective to at least partially decolorize or break up a pigment of the tattoo. The reducing agent can be selected from the group consisting of sodium oxymethylene sulfoxylate and sodium hydroxymethane sulfinic acid.

Abstract

A motor is provided which includes a pivotable portion having a permanent magnet mounted thereto, and first and second lamination arms, wherein the magnet induces positive and negative polarities in the first and second lamination arms, respectively. The motor further includes a fixed portion including an "E" shaped lamination having three lamination arms and a coil wound about one of the three lamination arms. When a current flowing in a first direction is applied to the coil, a first magnetic field is induced that affects polarity of at least on of the three lamination arms and thus generates a force that causes the first portion to pivot in a first direction. When the current flows in a second direction, a second magnetic field is induced that affects polarity of at least one of the three lamination arms and causes the first portion to pivot in a second direction.

Abstract

A brewed beverage appliance uses a specialized pre-packaged beverage container and a related method of brewing a beverage. The container comprises a cup- shaped base having openings at the bottom. A plurality of roasted, whole coffee beans are contained therein. The appliance has a blade that punctures the cup and then grinds the beans while they are still in the cup. Heated water is delivered to the cup and passes through the ground coffee causing brewed coffee to emit from the openings in the bottom of the cup and into a container such as a coffee mug.

Abstract

A beverage appliance includes a housing having a liquid reservoir, a brewing station disposed within the housing and in fluid communication with the liquid reservoir, a grinding station disposed within the housing and being functionally separate from said brewing station, and a brewing carriage being selectively movable between a first position adjacent the grinding station and a second position adjacent the brewing station. Movement of the brewing carriage between the first and second position shifts a beverage ingredient in the brewing carriage from the first position to the second position and when the brewing carriage is in the in said second position, liquid is dispensed from the liquid reservoir and directed to the brewing carriage to produce a brewed beverage.

Abstract

A beverage assembly includes a housing having a liquid reservoir, an inlet portion formed in the housing, a beverage container configured to be removably accommodated within the inlet portion and having a fracturable seal and containing a beverage ingredient of a first size, a grinding mechanism positioned within the housing and in fluid communication with the inlet portion, and a piercing assembly positioned within the housing, wherein the piercing assembly selectively pierces the fracturable seal thereby causing said beverage ingredient to enter the grinding mechanism. The grinding mechanism selectively transforms the beverage ingredient from the first size to a second size, the second size being smaller than the first size. The beverage assembly further includes a brewing area disposed beneath the grinding assembly and configured to removably accommodate the beverage container after the beverage container has been pierced by the piercing assembly.

Abstract

The beverage appliance of the present invention includes a venturi having a steam inlet and a milk inlet. The steam inlet and milk inlet each include a solenoid valve configurable between an open state and a closed state. The solenoid valves are electrically coupled to a processor and are controllable through first and second switches. In operation, upon activation of the first switch, the solenoid valves are controlled to their open states to deliver milk and steam to the venturi to produce frothed milk. When a desired amount of frothed milk has been dispensed, the user deactivates the first switch and the processor controls only the milk inlet solenoid valve to its closed state. The steam inlet solenoid valve remains in its open state for a predetermined amount of time such that a burst of steam only is forced through the venturi and distribution lines to purge them of milk.
