Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for bleaching, drying and deodorizing algae or algae extracts, for uses thereof in the manufacture of plastics or composites. The method according to the invention comprises the following steps: Bleaching, drying and deodorizing algae or algae extracts, outside of an aqueous medium, comprising the following steps: - (a) a step of obtaining an algal biomass or algae extracts, - (b) a step of preparing a bleaching and deodorizing solution comprising hydrogen peroxide and water, - (c) a step of spreading the algal biomass or algae extracts on a flat surface, - (d) a step of uniformly spraying said solution for bleaching and deodorizing the algal biomass or the algae extracts, it being possible for said step (d) to be carried out before the spreading step (c), - (e) a step of bleaching, deodorizing and drying the algal biomass or the algae extracts, under light exposure for at least 24h, - (f) a step of recovering bleached, deodorized and dried algae or algae extracts.

A process for preparing an algal powder containing a reduced content of proteins, a bioplastic composition formed from such a powder, a process for manufacturing a plastic product obtained from such an algal powder and also the plastic product obtained in this way. Process for preparing an algal powder, especially intended for the manufacture of a plastic product, including the successive steps of: culturing and/or harvesting an algal biomass; reducing by at least 10% the intrinsic amount of proteins of the algae, by weight relative to the weight of proteins of the harvested biomass; drying; and reducing to give powder or granules.

Abstract

The present invention concerns a method for preparing an algae powder with reduced protein content, a bioplastic composition formulated from such a powder, a method for producing a plastic product obtained from such an algae powder, and the plastic product obtained in this way. A method for preparing an algae powder, in particular intended for producing a plastic product, comprising the successive steps of: - cultivating and/or harvesting an algae biomass, - reducing the intrinsic quantity of proteins in the algae by at least 10%, preferably by at least 40 %, more preferably by at least 70%, and more preferably still by at least 75%, by mass relative to the mass of proteins of the harvested biomass, - drying, - reducing into powder or granules.
