Abstract

Provided are computing system and method for documenting and communication information within a mobile medical care environment. A mounting system supports the computing system within a mobile medical care environment. The computing system includes a decoding module that causes the processing circuitry to scan, with the non-contact scanner, a computer-readable code encoding information about a first medicinal substance. A record module causes the processing circuitry to link at least a portion of the encoded information from the computer-readable code to a patient ID that is associated with the patient and stored in the memory. A communication module transmits (i) the portion of the information from the barcode linked to the patient ID, and (ii) the patient ID to be stored by a medical record system at a healthcare destination.

Abstract

Provided is a drug labeling apparatus and method that involves scanning a barcode provided to a first drug vial to obtain information related to a first drug stored by the first drug vial. Data stored by a computer-readable medium of a first RFID tag associated with the first drug vial is read. Data stored by a computer-readable medium of a second RFID tag associated with a second drug vial is also read. The data determined based on the barcode is compared to the data read from the media provided to the first and second RFID tags. It is determined that the data read from the medium provided to the first RFID tag corresponds to the first drug based on the comparison result. Label content including information derived from the barcode and information derived from the data read from the medium provided to the first RFID tag is generated.

Abstract

Provided is a method and system for programming a drug delivery device. The method includes using a portable computer terminal to read a device code encoding information specific to the drug delivery device, a patient code identifying a specific patient that is to receive the drug administered by the drug delivery device, and a drug code accompanying a container storing the drug to be administered to the specific patient by the drug delivery device. Once input is received from a user indicating that operation of the drug delivery device to deliver the drug to the specific patient is to begin, the portable computer terminal initiates creation of an electronic record thereon linking the information specific to the drug delivery device, the information indicative of the identity of the specific patient, and the information indicative of the drug delivery parameter.

Abstract

Devices of a networked system for transmitting communications at a healthcare institution, including drug labeling and formulary management devices, can be updated by supplementing received drug information with drug information from a similar drug already in the formulary. The received drug information is compared with other drugs already in the formulary and a match quality value is determined based on this comparison. A selection of a matching or similar drug is made based on the determined match quality value. The received drug information and drug information from the selected matching or similar drug can be combined to update the formulary with all of the desired information.

Abstract

Provided are a system and method for presenting information related to a drug dilution. A computer memory stores a drug database with a plurality of drug entries, each of which includes an identification and concentration of a drug stored in an originating container. A reader is operable to read a barcode associated with the drug identifier of the originating drug container and the concentration and/or dose and volume of the drug in the container. A user selects or enters a desired drug preparation that may include one or more preparations of the originating drug requested for administration to a patient. Abstract

Provided is a system for printing a label identifying a medicinal substance and documenting a quantity of the medicinal substance administered to a patient. The system includes a code reader that interrogates a computer-readable code representing the medicinal substance that corresponds to a source container of the medicinal substance at a time when the medicinal substance is to be extracted from the source container. A non- transitory, local computer-readable memory stores a drug formulary that is referenced by a processing component to identify the medicinal substance. A printer prints label content identifying the medicinal substance onto a label to be applied to a delivery container. Abstract

Provided is an apparatus for administering a drug to a patient. The apparatus includes a scanner that is operable to read a computer-readable code and transmit a signal indicative of encoded information encoded by the computer-readable code. A non-transitory computer memory stores information relating to administration of the drug by the apparatus to the patient. A processing component establishes at least a portion of operational parameters governing the administration of the drug to the patient using the information retrieved from the non-transitory memory based on the signal transmitted by the scanner in response to scanning the computer- readable code. An initiator operates in accordance with the operational parameters to regulate the administration of the drug to the patient.

Abstract

Provided is a label generated on-demand for identifying a medicinal substance to be administered to a patient, and a printing apparatus for generating such a label. The label includes a content surface on which label content is printed on-demand by a computer printer. The label content includes information required by a medical labeling standard. An adhesive surface is provided to be applied against a container for storing the medicinal substance and adhering the label to the container. A color code is visible when viewing the content surface. The color code is specified by the medical labeling standard for conveying information about the medicinal substance to be stored in the container, and the label content and color code render the label compliant with the medical labeling standard.

Abstract

Disclosed are systems and methods for enabling transfer of a drug from a first drug container to a second drug container including a drug identification component that recognizes a first drug container to retrieve drug identifying data for the drug, a storage medium that stores a site-specific database comprising attributes and associated values for a set of drugs including the drug in the first drug container, a processor that obtains the drug identifying data and the attributes and associated values for the drug and produces information about the drug using the drug identifying data and the attributes and associated values, a rules engine that applies one or more rules to the information about the drug to generate drug handling information, and an output unit that outputs markings comprising the drug handling information in human-readable or machine-readable form, or both, to be associated with the second container.

Abstract

Provided is an apparatus, system and method for protecting medical output to be stored on a portable computer-readable medium. Access to the medical output is restricted and a key is established to grant access to the medical output stored on the portable computer-readable medium. An identifier is assigned to the portable computer- readable medium and stored on both the portable computer-readable medium and a computer memory. The medical output is stored on the portable computer-readable memory, and access to the medical output on the portable computer-readable medium is restricted, requiring the key for accessing and viewing the medical output. The key is also stored in the computer memory and a relationship associating the identifier with the key is established to enable identification of the key with knowledge of the identifier. A security utility and a medical presentation utility can also be stored on the portable computer-readable medium. The security utility and medical presentation utility can be executable by the user computer to grant access to, and present the medical output on the portable computer-readable medium to the intended recipient in response to entry of the key.

Abstract

A printer receives a plurality of image sections and corresponding image headers from the host as an image concatenation command. The plurality of image sections store the plurality of image sections in a print queue. The printer creates a virtual canvas representing a full image size. The printer determines how many lines of uniform data are present in a top border and a bottom border of the plurality of image sections. A variable formatting module of the printer crops a bottom border of a first image section to create a cropped first image section and a top border of a last image section to create a cropped last image section. The variable formatting module creates a first image frame in the virtual canvas corresponding to the first image section minus the bottom border and a last image frame corresponding to the last image section minus the top border.
