Abstract

Fluid handling couplings can be configured for use in sterile fluid systems. For example, this document describes fluid handling couplings that are sterilizable, genderless, that include manually openable valves, and that are configured for single-use aseptic fluid handling usage. The manually openable valve can include a screw thread segment and a plug portion. The plug portion can block fluid flow through the fluid handling coupling when the valve is in its closed configuration.

Abstract

Certain fluid couplings are designed to prevent spillage of fluid when connecting and disconnecting the couplings. In some embodiments, the fluid couplings include internal valve components. In some example embodiments, the internal valve components include two springs that are arranged to exert their spring forces in parallel with each other to bias a valve component to a normally closed position. Some embodiments include a single spring. In particular embodiments, components of the fluid couplings and fluid flow paths of the fluid couplings have oblong transverse cross-sectional shapes.

Abstract

Fluid couplings described herein are designed be assembled efficiently and economically. In example embodiments, the fluid couplings are designed with minimal component parts so that the fluid couplings are additionally economical to produce. A main body of the fluid coupling defines an opening through a side wall. A valve member and a conical spring are insertable into an internal space defined by the main body. The maximum outer diameter of the conical spring is smaller than the opening through the side wall. Accordingly, the conical spring can be inserted through the opening.

Abstract

This document describes fluid coupling devices for fluid handling systems. For example, this document describes male and female couplings that can be snapped together, and that are disconnectable by manually compressing an ovular collar of the female coupling. Some fluid coupling devices described herein are well suited for use in systems that provide liquid cooling for heat generating devices such as batteries, power sources, electronics, computer hardware and the like. Moreover, the fluid coupling devices described herein are also suitable for many other fluid coupling uses.

Abstract

Fluid coupling devices can be used to provide fluid passage connections in fluid systems. Some fluid coupling devices are configured for use in fluid systems for the purpose of providing a sterile connection by which fluid can be transferred in a sterile manner. Such a sterile connection can be useful for the delivery and/or processing of therapeutic agents, or ingredients thereof, and other purposes.

Abstract

An aseptic coupling arrangement can include a first coupling device and a second aseptic coupling device. In one embodiment, the first and second coupling devices are substantially similar, each having a main body defining a front face and a fluid passageway therethrough. A first connecting feature disposed on the main body of each coupling device may be provided for aligning and coupling the aseptic devices together. Each coupling device may also include a sealing member received in the main body and a membrane removably coupled to the main body front face to cover the sealing member. The first aseptic coupling device may also include a rotatable protective cover that is removably attached to the main body and connected to the membrane. In one embodiment, the removal of the protective covers away from two coupled main bodies, in a direction parallel to the front faces, causes removal of the membranes.

Abstract

Fluid coupling devices can be configured for use in fluid systems for purposes of providing a single-use, aseptic disconnection functionality that can substantially limit fluid spillage when being disconnected. In some embodiments, the coupling portions cannot be functionally reconnected to each other after being disconnected from each other. The coupling portions can be identical to each other in some embodiments. A retainer component of the fluid coupling devices can be removably engaged with the coupling portions while the coupling portions are abutted against each other in an operative arrangement.

Fluid couplings described herein are designed to prevent spillage of fluid when connecting and disconnecting the couplings. In some embodiments, the fluid couplings described herein include internal valve components. In some example embodiments, the internal valve components include two springs that are arranged to exert their spring forces in parallel with each other to bias a valve component to a normally closed position. Abstract

Some fluid coupling devices described herein are configured for use in fluid systems. For example, some embodiments described in this document are single-use, aseptic fluid coupling devices that can be coupled to create a sterile flow path therethrough. Some such aseptic couplings are genderless couplings such that two identical aseptic couplings can be coupled together and then latched to form a robust connection between the aseptic couplings.

Abstract

An aseptic fluid coupling includes a main body, a front face, a termination that is at an opposite end of the main body in comparison to the front face, an alignment post extending from a portion of the front face, and an alignment guide defining internal space configured to slidably receive an alignment post of another aseptic fluid coupling when two of the aseptic fluid couplings are mated together.

Abstract

Aseptic fluid coupling devices can be used for fluid systems and manufacturing processes that require sterilized fluid flow pathways. For example, aseptic fluid coupling devices that include removable membrane strips that protect the interior of the aseptic fluid coupling devices from contamination prior to use can be used in such contexts. Methods for attaching removable membranes to the aseptic fluid coupling devices can include heat sealing using a protruding die that reduces the resultant tension of the removable membranes.

Abstract

This document describes devices and methods for reducing liquid spillage, such as fluid coupling devices that include one or more apertures that reduce spillage when the fluid coupling devices are disconnected. In some embodiments, the one or more apertures are designed with features to increase a level of acceleration that liquid within an internal volume of the fluid coupling devices would need to be exposed to in order to spill from the internal volume via the one or more apertures.

Abstract

This document describes fluid coupling devices for fluid handling systems. For example, some embodiments described in this document relate to fluid coupling devices that snap together, and are then secured to each other using a collar and collet mechanism. Some fluid coupling devices described herein are well suited for use in systems that provide fluid cooling for heat generating devices such as computer hardware. The fluid coupling devices described herein are also suitable for many other uses.
