Abstract
This invention discloses a method to increase the CO2 capture efficiency in a fluidized bed carbonator of CaO or Ca(OH)2 by exploiting the characteristics of a solid entrainment zone at the exit of the carbonator, where fine solids are in contact with the gas exiting the carbonator. The method being characterized by selectively cooling said entrainment zone to 500-600° C. by feeding the to the beginning of a solid entrainment zone part of the make-up flow of limestone at ambient temperature, by installing a heat exchanger section of a water/steam circuit, by spraying water or by feeding a flow of Ca(OH)2 powder at ambient temperature to capture the CO2 from the gas already depleted in CO2 that leaves the denser region of solids that is present at the bottom of the carbonator.

Abstract
A device for the detection of gamma rays to be used primarily in a PET scanner is based on a scintillator heterostructure combining the high stopping power of scintillators commonly used in PET scanners (such as L(Y)SO, BGO, etc.) and fast scintillators based on polymers loaded with fast emitting dyes or nanocrystals, or thin layers of nanocrystals or multiple quantum well structures. While the metascintillator block is read out in the monolithic or semi-monolithic arrangement, the fast scintillator is segmented so that it is read out by less photodetectors. The particular arrangement of this detector module allows combining all the important features of a high-performance Time-of-Flight PET (TOFPET) detector module, i.e. a high photoelectric detection efficiency for the gamma rays, a precise 3D information (including the depth of interaction DOI) of the gamma ray conversion in the module, good energy resolution and superior timing resolution.

Abstract
The present invention discloses a method for inhibiting molecular hydrogen dissociation on noble metal materials and surfaces using 1,4-enediols, such as 2,4,7,9-tetramethyldecyne-4,7-diol, in order to deactivate the splitting of the molecular hydrogen and the formation of hydrides on the surface of said materials. Said deactivation process is intended for industrial uses, such as, but not limited to, modifying catalysts, creating hydrogen storage materials and protecting metal materials. The process comprises at least the following steps: - A first step in which the 1,4-enediol, or a mixture thereof, is brought into contact with a material containing a noble metal. - A second step of stirring, and heating or subjecting to pressure. - A third step of recovering the material.

Abstract
A device has a piezoelectric or ferroelectric substrate on which ice is deposited. Electrodes are connected to the substrate. A vector network analyzer is connected to the electrodes and configured to determine the resonant frequency of the substrate. An excitation module including a function generator communicates with the vector network analyzer and is connected to an amplifier. The amplifier is connected to the electrodes. The excitation module uses an automatic switch to apply to the electrodes an AC electrical signal having a frequency coinciding with the resonant frequency measured in the vector network analyzer and which changes gradually as the ice melts.

This invention discloses a calcination process to produce high purity CO2 from solids containing CaCO3 which operates cyclically and continuously on the solids, arranged in a packed or a moving bed, and wherein each cycle comprises a first step where the combustion at atmospheric pressure of a fuel in the bed of solids containing CaCO3 heats them up to 800-900° C. and a second step wherein a vacuum pressure between 0.05 and 0.5 atm is applied to extract pure CO2 from the solids containing CaCO3 while cooling them by 30-200° C. Said combustion can be carried out directly with air, oxygen enriched air or O2/CO2 mixtures when the process is applied to the calcination of a continuous flow of limestone in a moving bed shaft kiln. The process is also applied to calcine CaCO3 formed in reversible calcium looping processes comprising a carbonation reaction step to form CaCO3 from CaO.

The resulting self-standing catecholamine-based membrane was robust, easy to handle and manipulate, highly flexible and adaptable to any kind of surface without breaking, and adhesive. In addition, the free-standing membrane of the invention shows a Janus character, with an unexpected nanopatterning in the water-contact side which endows the membranes of the invention with a higher roughness surface, something of value to promote cell adhesion.

An electronic readout network topology for positron emission tomography is able to provide Time of Flight for photodetectors arranged in matrix arrays made up of a plurality of silicon photomultipliers. Each photodetector has anode and cathode terminals. The readout network topology ensures suitable polarisation of the set of photodetectors and provides a reduction diagram by creating a single connection to extract a unique time reference signal that is accurate and synched up in phase to a detection event at any position of the photodetector matrix instead of connecting to each individual photodetector. A fast amplifier with low input impedance is electrically coupled to this time reference signal, creating a path of low impedance for the rapid transition signals, reducing the total parasitic capacitance of the parallel arrangement of detectors, and improving the time response of the detector block. Moreover, the readout electronics creates a smaller number of positioning signals.

Abstract
The present invention relates to a thermal energy storage material based on high-temperature phase change materials infiltrated into a highly porous ceramic structure with an ordered pattern developed by additive manufacturing or 3D printing technologies. These materials prevent the liquid leakage of the phase change material, are lightweight, mechanically and corrosion-resistant, and have high enthalpy of fusion and high thermal energy storage capacity. These materials can be employed in high-temperature applications for thermal energy storage, for instance, in concentrated solar power plants, nuclear energy, heat recovery from the heat generated in industrial processes, or in space applications.

The present invention relates to materials with thermoregulable light transmittance; in particular, to a thermoresponsive transmittance composition comprising: (I) one or more polymers; (ii) one or more phase change materials (PCM); (iii) optionally, one or more photothermal agents capable of absorbing visible and/or near-infrared radiation (NIR) and converting the visible and/or NIR radiation into heat; (iv) optionally, one or more electroheaters; and (v) optionally, one or more excipients or carriers. These compositions are capable of changing from a light transparent state to a light non-transparent state upon temperature variation generated by external heat, light irradiation and/or voltage application. The invention also discloses free-standing films and articles containing the thermoresponsive transmittance compositions, as well as the processes for their preparation and their uses therefore, such as in optics as smart glass.

Abstract
A method for obtaining a reinforced packaging paper by applying a residual fluid from the pre-treatment of lignocellulose waste with a water-alcohol mix to the packaging paper and the subsequent drying thereof. The residual fluid has a solid fraction in suspension of 1-70% by weight/volume relative to the total, with lignin and lignin-carbohydrate complexes; and a liquid fraction of 30-99% by weight/volume relative to the total, containing between 0.04 and 2.07 g/L glucose, between 0.31 and 14.57 g/L xylose, between 0.09 and 3.46 g/L arabinose, between 0.083 and 12.40 g/L acetic acid, and between 0.004 and 8.73 g/L furfural. The method improves the efficiency of the cellulose pulp residual fluids in the process of reinforcing a packaging paper, and is suitable for all types of raw cardboard or paper.

Abstract
The invention provides a method for determining the set of focal laws of a plurality of focal points located in a test object (1). The method comprises the steps of providing a bidimensional array of transducer elements (2) in a coupling medium and defining at least a scan line (4) by a set of focal points (5). For each scan line (4), the method comprises performing the sub-steps of choosing a two preliminary focal points (F1, F2), calculating a first auxiliary time-of-flight corresponding to the time-of-flight of a wave emitted from the corresponding transducer element (2) and received in the first preliminary focal point (F1), and a second auxiliary time-of-flight corresponding to the time-of-flight of a wave emitted from the same transducer and received in the second preliminary focal point (F2). Then, determining a constant time value (tK) and an intermediate variable (y) and finally calculating, for the rest of the set of focal points of the scan line (4), the focal laws to each transducer (2) by using the constant time value (tK) and the intermediate variable (y).
