Abstract
A rotary spring-return actuator operator is provided with a multi-slot shaft and a clock type spring retained by a retaining band which encircles the spring in such a manner as to insure that the potential energy within the spring is safely contained during all operations requiring disassembly of the actuator assembly, and wherein the retaining band facilitates the in-field reversal of the spring direction or the adjustment of the spring preload by securing the spring to one or more of the slots on the multi-slot shaft.
IPC Classes ?

- F16F 1/10 - Spiral springs with turns lying substantially in plane surfaces
- F16K 31/56 - Mechanical actuating means without stable intermediate position, e.g. with snap action
- F16F 1/12 - Attachments or mountings
- F03G 1/02 - Spring motors characterised by shape or material of spring, e.g. helical, spiral, coil
- F16C 3/02 - Shafts; Axles
- F16K 17/04 - Safety valves; Equalising valves closing on insufficient pressure on one side spring-loaded

Abstract
A rotary spring-return actuator (10) operator is provided with a multi-slot shaft (40) and a clock type spring (34) retained by a retaining band (32) which encircles the spring (34) in such a manner as to insure that the potential energy within the spring (34) is safely con¬ tained during all operations requiring disassembly of the actuator assembly (12), and wherein the retaining band (32) facilitates the infield reversal of the spring direction or the adjustment of the spring preload by securing the spring (34) to one or more of the slots on the multi-slot shaft (40).
IPC Classes ?
- F16K 31/04 - Operating means; Releasing devices magnetic using a motor
- F16K 31/56 - Mechanical actuating means without stable intermediate position, e.g. with snap action
- F16K 1/10 - Special arrangements for improving the flow, e.g. special shape of passages or casings in which the spindle is inclined to the general direction of flow
- F16F 1/12 - Attachments or mountings
