Abstract

The present invention provides a preparation method for biodegradable polymer nanocomposite films with superior gas barrier, tensile properties, and dimensional stability at the retort temperature utilizing a one-step-reactive compounding process to achieve improved interaction between a biodegradable polymer, which is an aliphatic-aromatic copolyester based on the monomers 1.4-butanediol, adipic acid, terephthalic acid, succinic acid, and lactic acid in the polymer chain, and nanoparticles, including layered silicate type nanoclay and Metal Organic Framework (MOF). Various biodegradable polymers, such as PBAT, PLA, PHA, PBS, PCL, and PHBV, can be used as the supportive outer layers in a nanocomposite multilayer films, providing versatility in applications. The one-step-reactive compounding method offers an economical and environmentally friendly approach for the preparation of these advanced biodegradable polymer nanocomposite films.

Abstract

The invention provides a method for the manufacture of amylose-lipid complexes The method includes the steps of pasting a mixture of starch and a fatty acid until after the second biphasic peak viscosity is reached, hydrolysing the starch with a hydrolysing enzyme, and dispersing the hydrolysed starch and working up of the residue. The amylose-lipid complexes has nano-structure dimensions and can be used a fat replacer in foodstuffs.

Abstract

This invention relates to a membrane and method for the preservation of agricultural produce. According to a first aspect of the invention there is provided a membrane for the preservation of agricultural produce comprising first and second outer polymeric layers, at least one of the outer polymeric layers being impregnated with a hydrophilic agent, and an inner layer dispersed in between the outer layers, the inner layer consisting of a polymer being impregnated with a carrier for incorporation of an antimicrobial volatile into the inner layer, the inner layer further including an absorptive agent, wherein in use, the membrane is placed proximate to agricultural produce to be preserved.

Abstract

The present invention extends on-chip lensless microscope systems (10), including optofluidic microscope (OFMs) and holographic imaging microscopes to incorporate computational photography principles. A LF-OFM system 10 includes at least one plasmonic lens (50) with apertures (38), at least one microfluidic channel (28), and an image sensor array (24). The system (10) is capable of generating an image through computational photography.
