Abstract
This gasket is provided with outer cuts (4-1, 4-2, 4-3, 4-4) in a non-restrained portion (2-2) disposed adjacent to a restrained portion (2-1) that is restrained between flanges (16-1, 16-2). The outer cuts change shape due to a load exerted on the restrained portion. The shapes of the outer cuts that have undergone a change under the aforementioned load are measured, and clamping of the gasket is controlled on the basis of the measured shapes. Accordingly, it is possible to directly observe a change in the shape of a gasket that is subjected to a load between flanges and to use the observation result for the purpose of controlling the clamping of the gasket so as to improve the gasket and control technology therefor.

Abstract
The present invention has an inner cut (4) in a non-restrained part (2-2) that is adjacent to a restrained part (2-1) that is restrained between flanges (16-1, 16-2), and the shape of the inner cut changes as a result of the load applied to the restrained part. Minimum information can be obtained from the change in shape of the inner cut. Thus, the change in shape of a gasket that is subjected to a load between flanges is observed directly, and the results of the observation are used in the management of the fastening of the gasket, improving the gasket and the management thereof.

Abstract
Tightening of a gasket (8) held between flanges (6-1, 6-2) is controlled on the basis of a step in which a load due to tightening is applied, a step in which a change in the shape of the gasket generated by the load is observed, and the change in shape. The change in shape includes a change in the gasket in at least the direction of the interval between the flanges, or a change in a direction orthogonal to the interval direction, or both of said changes. Thus, if a change in the shape of the gasket receiving the load is observed, tightening of the gasket can be controlled.
