A seat post assembly has a lightweight bridge (106) that snaps between tubular portions of a seat rail (108), where the bridge has ridges on opposing sides. A clamping mechanism (104) is connected to a seat post (102), where the clamping mechanism has two opposing clamps (116) and a single bolt (126) that attaches the clamps to the seat post. The clamps each have a curved groove (118) matching a curved ridge (112) at the base of the seat post. This allows the seat to be adjusted in angle. Each clamp also has a semi- cylindrical groove (120) that engages "with the tubular portions of the seat rail, where the upper portion of the groove has an opening (130) that engages with the ridges of the bridge to allow the clamping mechanism and bridge to move together and adjust the seat in a fore and aft position. An opening (124) is provided in both clamps for the bolt, where one portion of the bolt has a notch, and one opening has a groove to secure the bolt' when tightening or loosening the bolt.
In one embodiment, a stem for bicycle handlebar and the like includes an arm joining the handlebar with a fork. The arm includes a three-piece wedge on each end that is adjustable by a screw to tighten and loosen a middle clamp of the wedge. The wedge is moved to release and tighten the fork and the handlebar independently.
A quick release camming mechanism is used in a bicycle skewer that secures a hub to a fork. Whereas prior art quick release mechanisms have only a single lever, this mechanism has two independent levers. About half the force is required to independently push either lever closed as to push both levers closed simultaneously. Similarly, about half the force is required to open either lever individually as to open them simultaneously. A similar quick release camming mechanism also works well for a quick release seat post clamp with similar advantages. The present invention is not limited to use on bicycle components.
A spoked wheel comprises a rim, a hub, V-shaped spokes, nipples, and eyelets. There is true pairing of the spokes, because the rim has half the number of spoke attachments as there are nipples. True paired spoking means that there are no side wobble forces or rim twist caused by spoke tension. The rim has spoke attachment holes that are parallel to the axis of wheel rotation and are reinforced with eyelets. The rim has unnecessary material cut away between the spoke attachment holes. To ease adjustment, the nipples are located about midway between the hub and the rim. The hub has longitudinal ribs and that are aligned with each other. That allows the hub body to be machined from a relatively lightweight extrusion. To increase the wheel strength, the inboard spokes are moved outboard as much as possible. The hub has pairs of nipple attachment holes where each pair is located on a diagonal relative to the axis of the hub.
A pedal with a body has two opposing plates on different sides of the pedal that can be easily removed or displaced by sliding to access the inner surfaces of the pedal and the backside of traction pins. In this way, traction pins can be replaced even after the pins have been worn out or broken.
