Abstract

A method of correcting post- warp in a multi-layer product under prevailing conditions includes detecting an initial warp value of the multi-layer product indicative of an initial degree of warpage therein. A moisture-conditioning setpoint is selected from among a plurality of moisture-conditioning setpoints that have been correlated to respective initial warp values and their associated post-warp values for prior-made multi-layer products, based on a comparison between the detected initial warp value and the respective initial warp values in the database. Further, the method includes adjusting a moisture content in at least one layer of the multi-layer product according to the selected moisture-conditioning setpoint.

Abstract

A method of producing a corrugated product comprises the steps of providing at least one medium conditioning apparatus upstream of at least one of a corrugating labyrinth, single-facer, and/or double-backer. The moisture content in at least one of a web of medium material, first face-sheet, and/or second face-sheet is adjusted to be in the range of 6-9 wt.% moisture by applying a substantially continuous thin film of liquid thereto using the at least one medium conditioning apparatus. In one example, at least one heating arrangement is arranged downstream from the at least one medium conditioning apparatus to heat at least one of the web of medium material, first-face sheet, and/or second face-sheet.

IPC Classes  ?

  • B31D 5/02 - Multiple-step processes for making three-dimensional articles including pressing
  • B31F 1/20 - CorrugatingCorrugating combined with laminating to other layers
  • B31F 1/24 - Making webs in which the channel of each corrugation is transverse to the web feed
  • B32B 29/00 - Layered products essentially comprising paper or cardboard

Abstract

A method is provided for applying adhesive to the flutes of a corrugated sheet web. An applicator roll is provided with a uniform thin coating of adhesive by a metering rod. Exposed crests of the flutes are brought into contact with a coating of adhesive that has been applied to a surface of an applicator roll in order to provide a uniform bead of adhesive on the flute crests. The flutes are compressed against the applicator roll surface in a forward direction relative to the direction in which the web is moving adjacent the applicator roll surface. In one embodiment, the applicator roll has a surface linear velocity greater than the speed at which the web is traveling.

IPC Classes  ?

  • B05D 5/10 - Processes for applying liquids or other fluent materials to surfaces to obtain special surface effects, finishes or structures to obtain an adhesive surface
  • B05D 1/28 - Processes for applying liquids or other fluent materials performed by transfer from the surfaces of elements carrying the liquid or other fluent material, e.g. brushes, pads, rollers
  • B05C 1/08 - Apparatus in which liquid or other fluent material is applied to the surface of the work by contact with a member carrying the liquid or other fluent material, e.g. a porous member loaded with a liquid to be applied as a coating for applying liquid or other fluent material to work of indefinite length using a roller
