Abstract

An injection system includes an injection system body, a proximal stopper member, and a distal stopper member, wherein the proximal stopper member, the distal stopper member, and the injection system body form proximal and distal drug chambers. The system further includes a plunger member configured to insert the proximal stopper member relative to the injection system body. Moreover, the system includes a needle hub assembly coupled to the syringe body at the syringe body distal end, and including a needle hub and a needle. The distal stopper member includes a ball having a lodged state and a dislodged state. When the ball is in the lodged state, the ball forms an openable barrier between the proximal and distal drug chambers. The system also includes a stopper member and a fenestrated separator disposed in the injection system body, forming a proximal drug chamber between the stopper member and the fenestrated separator and a distal drug chamber between the fenestrated separator and the distal end of the injection system body. The system further includes a plunger member configured to be manipulated to insert the stopper member relative to the injection system body. The fenestrated separator forms an openable barrier between the proximal and distal drug chambers. The fenestrated separator is configured to allow flow from the proximal drug chamber to the distal drug chamber with increased pressure in the proximal drug chamber relative to the distal drug chamber.

An injection system includes an injection system body defining a proximal opening at a proximal end thereof and a distal needle interface at a distal end thereof.

Abstract

A system for serially injecting liquids includes a syringe body defining a syringe proximal opening and a distal needle interface, proximal and distal stopper members, forming proximal and distal chambers. The system also includes a first liquid in the distal chamber and a second liquid in the proximal chamber, and a plunger configured to be manually manipulated to insert the proximal stopper member distally. Moreover, the system includes a needle hub assembly coupled to the syringe body, the needle assembly including a needle. The needle defines a needle interior, and distal, middle and proximal openings. The distal, middle and proximal openings are fluidly coupled through the needle interior. Manipulating the plunger member to insert the proximal stopper member initially expels the first liquid from the distal chamber, then serially expels the second liquid from the proximal chamber.

Abstract

A system for injecting includes a syringe body, a syringe interior, a syringe flange, and a stopper member and an injectable fluid disposed in the syringe interior. The system also includes a plunger member coupled to the stopper member. The system further includes a finger flange removably coupled to the syringe flange, the finger flange defining a pair of side openings and a pair of bumps adjacent respective side openings. Moreover, the system also includes a swing spacer rotatably coupled to the finger flange, the swing spacer defining a pair of arms, a pair of pivot pins, two pairs of slots, and a pair of indentations. Abstract

A system for mixing drug products and injecting includes a syringe body, proximal and distal stopper members disposed in the syringe body, a plunger member, and a needle hub assembly coupled to the distal needle interface of the syringe body. The proximal and distal stopper members form a proximal drug chamber between there between and a distal drug chamber between the distal stopper member and a distal end of the syringe body. The plunger member includes a needle retention feature, an energy-storage member, and an energy-storage member latching member all disposed in disposed in a plunger interior. First and second sizes of the respective proximal and distal drug chambers can be modified by movement of the proximal and distal stopper members relative to the syringe body. The needle is at least partially retractable into plunger interior upon manipulation of the plunger member relative to the syringe body.

Abstract

A method for preparing a pre-filled multi-chamber injection system includes providing an injection system body, the injection system body defining an open proximal end, a body interior, and an open distal end. The method also includes introducing a first substance into a distal end of the body interior. The method further includes disposing a distal stopper member in the body interior, the distal stopper member and the injection system body defining proximal and distal chambers in the body interior. Moreover, the method includes introducing a second substance into the body interior. In addition, the method includes disposing a proximal stopper member in the body interior. The method also includes inserting an elongate member at least partially into the body interior, the elongate member having a plurality of flow channels for fluidly coupling the proximal and distal chambers. Abstract

A system for serially injecting liquids includes a syringe body, proximal and distal stopper members disposed in the syringe body, a first liquid in a distal chamber, a second liquid in a proximal chamber, a plunger member, and a needle hub assembly coupled to a distal needle interface of the syringe body. The plunger member includes a needle retention feature disposed in a plunger interior, an energy-storage member disposed in the plunger interior, and an energy-storage member latching member disposed in the plunger interior. The needle assembly includes a needle having a needle proximal end feature, a hub, and a needle latching member configured to couple the needle to the hub. Abstract

A system for mixing drug products and injecting includes a syringe body (34), proximal and distal stopper members (32,36) disposed in the syringe body, a plunger member, and a needle hub assembly coupled to the distal needle interface of the syringe body. The proximal and distal stopper members form a proximal drug chamber (40) between there between and a distal drug chamber (42) between the distal stopper member and a distal end of the syringe body. The plunger member includes a needle retention feature, an energy- storage member, and an energy-storage member latching member all disposed in disposed in a plunger interior. First and second sizes of the respective proximal and distal drug chambers can be modified by movement of the proximal and distal stopper members relative to the syringe body. The needle is at least partially retractable into plunger interior upon manipulation of the plunger member relative to the syringe body.

Abstract

One embodiment is directed to a safety syringe system, comprising: an off-the-shelf syringe assembly comprising a syringe body and a plunger tip; a needle assembly removably coupleable to the distal end of the syringe body such that medicinal fluid may be transferred through a retractable needle coupled to a needle housing comprising the needle assembly upon insertion of the plunger tip relative to the syringe body; and a plunger control assembly coupled to the plunger tip and configured to facilitate manual insertion of the plunger tip relative to the syringe body; wherein upon insertion of the plunger tip to a final insertion state and release of an associated manual insertion load, the plunger tip may be proximally withdrawn, pulling the retractable needle proximally relative to the needle housing to a safe locked and retracted state wherein it is no longer exposed for injection.

Abstract

One embodiment is directed to a pre-filled safety syringe system, comprising a syringe body; a plunger tip positioned within the syringe body; a needle assembly removably coupleable to the distal end of the syringe body such that a medicinal fluid may be transferred through a retractable needle coupled to a needle housing comprising the needle assembly upon insertion of the plunger tip relative to the syringe body; and a plunger control assembly coupled to the plunger tip and configured to facilitate manual insertion of the plunger tip relative to the syringe body; wherein upon insertion and release of the plunger tip, a retraction load coupled between the syringe body and the plunger tip causes the plunger tip to be proximally withdrawn, pulling the retractable needle proximally relative to the needle housing to a safe locked and retracted state.

Abstract

One embodiment is directed to a method for safe injection, comprising: providing an injection assembly and inserting a plunger tip of the injection assembly to a final insertion state and releasing an associated manual insertion load. A retraction load developed sufficient to cause the plunger tip to be proximally withdrawn pulls the retractable needle proximally relative to the needle housing to a retracted state wherein a distal tip of the needle becomes mechanically locked into an encapsulated configuration wherein it is no longer exposed for injection.
