Abstract

A fire retardant composition comprising: at least 25 w/w% of a first polymer or blend of polymers; at least some and up to 25 w/w% inorganic fibres based on the total weight of the composition, where the inorganic fibres; and at least one of: • up to 25 w/w% melamine or a derivative thereof; • up to 25 w/w% inorganic phosphate and/or inorganic polyphosphate; • up to 25 w/w% non-melamine intumescent material; • up to 25 w/w% one or more materials which release an inert gas (e.g. steam, C02, N2) upon decomposition above 100°C; • up to 25 w/w% compound(s) which endothermically decomposes when exposed to temperatures higher than at least 100°C, e.g. higher than 120°C, 130°C, 140°C etc; • up to 25 w/w% organic phosphate and/or organic phosphonate and/or organic phosphinate; • up to 25 w/w% further additives.
