Abstract

The technology provides an efficient delta-of-delta compression process, which is designed to take advantage of large register configurations such as 128-bit or 256-bit registers. The process employs predictors to predict particular data values, such as for a timeseries of data. The timeseries is stored as a vector of points in memory. Predictors leverage instruction size and register size so that data storage is highly efficient, and processing latency is minimized or otherwise reduced. The process can be particularly beneficial for certain architectures, including single instruction, multiple data (“SIMD”) architectures, as it allows for the reuse of operands between iterations. This reduces the number of register loads required by the processing system, such as by omitting one or more load instructions that would otherwise be required. Moreover, decompression of compressed data generated by this approach can be performed very quickly, which can be important for data retrieval.

Abstract

The technology disclosed herein provides a mechanism to avoid double counting when generating metrics from monitoring events received from an endpoint (e.g., end user's web browser, or mobile application). A unique identifier is assigned to each monitoring event matching a metric definition. When the number of unique identifiers assigned is below a predetermined threshold, a deduplication system determines whether the unique identifier for a given monitoring event is duplicative of any other unique identifiers, corresponding to other monitoring events, using a hash set. When the number of unique identifiers exceeds the predetermined threshold, the unique identifiers are automatically added to a probabilistic data structure, such as a scalable Bloom filter. In this scenario, the deduplication system would determine whether the unique identifier for the given monitoring event is duplicative of any other identifiers in the probabilistic data structure.

Abstract

The technology provides a consistent hashing approach that can be used with many types of hash functions. This approach, called flip hashing, enables dynamic adjustment of a hash table while satisfying balance and monotonicity requirements. Flip hashing is particularly applicable to database and load rebalancing applications due to its low computational cost and ease of implementation. As computing resources are added to a system, keys are remapped evenly across the newly added resources, e.g., by one or more load-balancing or routing servers. This enables upscaling of the system to minimize hotspot issues. The computational cost for a flip hash approach is effectively constant and regardless of the number of resources. This can provide fast response times to queries and avoid overloading of routing servers.
