Abstract

A laminated collagen material includes a first set of one or more non-woven contiguous layers of compressed fibrillar collagen filaments, a sheet of a compressed gelatin sponge, and a first transition zone formed between the one or more non-woven contiguous layers and the sheet. The fibrillar collagen filaments include bundles of compressed collagen fibers, and the gelatin sponge includes a matrix of gelatin and spaces within the matrix of gelatin. Within the first transition zone, some bundles of the compressed collagen fibers protrude into the compressed gelatin sponge so as to substantially fill those spaces within the matrix of gelatin at the first transition zone. A process for producing a laminated collagen material includes providing a first set of one or more non-woven contiguous layers of fibrillar collagen filaments, providing a sheet of a gelatin sponge adjacent to the first set of one or more non-woven contiguous layers, and compressing the first set of one or more non-woven contiguous layers and the sheet together to form a first transition zone between the one or more non-woven contiguous layers and the sheet of the laminated collagen material.

Abstract

Devices, systems, and methods for closing the base of a left atrial appendage or other tissue structure comprise a device applicator having jaws, a shaft, and a handle. First and second triggers on a handle are configured to close the jaws and a closure device in a step-wise manner where tissue penetrating fasteners within the closure device are engaged by studs on the jaws, where the studs must be released prior to the opening of the jaws.

Abstract

Apparatus, systems, and methods are described for closing the base of a left atrial appendage or other tissue structure. A tissue closure device comprises a pair of legs having compliant surfaces for engaging against opposite sides of the tissue structure. A plurality of axially spaced-apart tissue-penetrating fasteners are delivered from one leg to the other to pierce the intervening tissue and hold the closure device in place on the tissue structure.

Abstract

A method for performing an in-vivo calibration of a blood pressure sensor that is associated with an in-vivo balloon system. The method involves monitoring a patient's blood pressure by observing the system gas pressure while at the same time monitoring the patient's blood pressure through the sensor. The blood pressure measurements obtained by monitoring the system gas pressure are used as reference, or “true,” blood pressure measurements, and an “offset” is determined between the reference blood pressure measurements and the blood pressure measurements obtained through the sensor. The offset can be stored in a memory, which may also store sensor sensitivity data. The offset and/or sensitivity data may be used to adjust future measurements obtained from the sensor, thereby generating calibrated sensor measurements.

Abstract

A hemostasis device (30) for percutaneously sealing a puncture (14) in the wall of a blood vessel (16) includes a rigid post (40), and a foot (60), a seal (80) and a retaining member (100) mounted on the rigid post. The hemostasis device may be deployed in the puncture so that the foot is positioned within the blood vessel. Tension is applied to the rigid post to hold the foot against the inside surface of the blood vessel. The retaining member is then pushed along the length of the rigid post, advancing the seal to a deployed state against the outside surface of the blood vessel. The puncture in the blood vessel is sandwiched between the foot and the seal in the deployed state. The rigid post, foot, seal and retaining member may all be formed from a resorbable polymeric material.

Abstract

A method for performing an in-vivo calibration of a blood pressure sensor that is associated with a balloon of an in-vivo balloon system, the sensor and balloon being associated such that the sensor is in-vivo when the balloon is in-vivo. The balloon is inflated so that a gas pressure in the balloon system is indicative of a patient's blood pressure. The patient's blood pressure is monitored through two channels, the gas pressure and the sensor. The blood pressure measurements obtained by monitoring the gas pressure are used as reference, or “true,” blood pressure measurements to determine a mathematical relationship between blood pressure measurements obtained through the sensor and the reference blood pressure measurements. In this manner, future blood pressure measurements obtained through the sensor can be modified according to the mathematical relationship to generate calibrated blood pressure measurements.
