Abstract

Described are various embodiments of an adaptive smart home sensing system and method. In some embodiments, the system comprises one or more internet of things (IoT) devices, each IoT device configured to provide one or more smart home functions and comprising at least one sensor or switch. A hub device is communicatively coupled with the IoT devices via a network, and configured to receive usage and monitoring data therefrom. The hub is configured to detect the occurrence of one or more significant events, and adapt the IoT devices to acquire and send usage and monitoring data related to the significant event. The hub may also self-diagnose IoT devices working outside of normal operating parameters and reconfigure or reorganize the sensor network.

Abstract

Whilst communications infrastructure and the capabilities of electronic devices have evolved the underlying management of the communications and the filtering or direction of communications has not kept pace and is particularly evident than in respect of the management of crisis situations. Crisis situations can include, but not be limited to, accidents, natural disasters, and violence such as school shootings or mass shootings. Within these crisis situations it is particularly important that communications are effective to provide those impacted with the appropriate information and to provide emergency services or others responding to the crisis with correspondingly appropriate information to their role(s) / activities. Abstract
