Abstract

A web transfer system includes a first winder with a first core thereon and a second winder with a second core thereon. The web transfer system includes a roll changer carriage that is moveably mounted on a track and communicates with a carriage actuator. A linkage is pivotally mounted to the roll changer carriage and is movable between a first and second roll transfer positions. The linkage includes a lay-on roll and an auxiliary arm. The auxiliary arm is pivotable between a retracted and extended position. The auxiliary idler is rotatably mounted to the auxiliary arm. The lay-on roll and the auxiliary idler roll transfer a web from the first core to the second core.

Abstract

A roll transfer assembly (20) for a web processing system (200) includes a support beam (22) configured to be moveably mounted to a frame (100F) of the web processing system (100). The roll transfer assembly (20) includes a segmented roll assembly (24) rotatably mounted to the support beam (22). The segmented roll assembly (24) includes a first end segment (24A), a second end segment (24B), a central segment (24C) positioned between the first end segment (24A) and the second end segment (24B). The roll transfer assembly (20) includes a first transfer roll (26A) positioned between the first end segment (24A) and the central segment (24C) and a second transfer roll (26B) positioned between the second segment (24B) and the central segment (24A). The roll transfer assembly (20) includes an actuation assembly (28) connected to the support beam (22), the first transfer roll (26A) and the second transfer roll (26B). The actuation assembly (20) includes a first drive system configured to translationally move the first transfer roll (26A) and the second transfer roll (26B) relative to the support beam (22) between a stored position and an extended position. A second drive system is connected to the frame (100F) and the support beam (22) and is configured to translationally move the roll transfer assembly (20) relative to the frame.

Abstract

A method for maximizing a width of a pre-stretch film includes providing polymer being suitable for producing the pre-stretch film. A pre-stretch film having strips of increased thickness is produced. Co-extrusion apparatus for manufacturing a laminated plastic film or sheet comprises a plug-type layer sequencer including a plurality of channels for conducting a plurality of polymer flows; a transitional aspect ratio block for inducing the plurality of polymer flows to converge; and a flow velocity profiler cartridge for combining the plurality of polymer flows to form the film. In accordance with one embodiment, the layer sequencer includes a tapered selector pin which minimizes mechanical damage when the selector pin is removed. In accordance with another embodiment, the flow velocity profiler cartridge includes inserts fitting within cavities for controlling the polymer flows which form the layers of the film or sheet manufactured by the apparatus. At least one such insert defines lanes within an associated cavity so as to promote the formation of lanes of differing polymer composition within at least one layer of the laminated sheet or film.

Abstract


The invention relates to a feed roll assembly for reducing leakage of an
elastomeric material in a feed section of an extruder machine. A shell (402),
feed roll seal plates (412), and feed roll end plates (422) are used to reduce
the leakage of elastomeric material. Elastomeric material is redirected back
to the feed section through the use of a varying bore diameter (408, 500, 502)
of the shell and grooves (420, 428) contained in both the feed roll seal
plates and the feed roll end plates. The shell, feed roll seal plates, feed
roll end plates, and a feed roll scraper (320) are each coated with a solid,
dry lubricant coating to reduce friction. The invention provides desirable
feedback of overflow elastomeric material and permits a retrofitting of the
feed roll assembly to existing extruder machines.
