Abstract

A thermal protection module that includes a first element, a second element, a first bracket, and a second bracket. The first element includes a first shell that defines a closed first cavity. The first shell includes a base and a cap. The second element includes a second shell that defines a closed second cavity. The second shell includes a base, a cap, and two sidewalls that each extend between the base and the cap. A first sidewall of the two sidewalls that is closer to the first element meets the cap to form a divider. The divider is positioned above the cap of the first shell when the base of the first shell and the base of the second shell are disposed within the same plane. The first bracket and the second bracket maintain the gap defined between the first element and the second element along the length thereof.

Abstract

A thermally insulated panel includes a first skin, a second skin spaced apart from the first skin, and a core that is disposed between and bonded to the first skin and the second skin such that the core transfers loads between the first skin and the second skin. The core includes a porous filler material that has a vacuum drawn therein such that the core resists transfer of thermal energy through the panel. A cargo container including thermally insulated panels and a method of manufacturing the thermally insulated panels are also disclosed. In addition, a method of repairing a vacuum insulated panel is disclosed.

Abstract

A latch for securing a component to a track in a base of air cargo equipment, such as a pallet or the floor of a unit load device. The latch includes a rigid support configured to be attached at the bottom edge of the component. The latch also includes a handle. The handle rotates relative to the support between an open position and a closed position. The handle uses a rotationally tapered locking cam to secure the component to the track. In one embodiment, the component is a door, such as a fabric curtain.

Abstract

An air cargo pallet with a central panel created from a plurality of sandwiched layers, including a foam core disposed between an upper skin layer having a resin and fiber combination and a lower skin layer having a resin and fiber combination. The central panel is reinforced with additional fibers extending through the lower skin layer, the foam core and the upper skin layer. An interface layer is disposed around the periphery of the foam core and bonded between the upper skin layer and the lower skin layer to complete the central panel. Abstract

A separable, strap closure member for a fabric door that is removably connectable to a clevis or coupling on the side of a cargo container. The strap closure member includes a pocket, a separable strap that connects to the clevis or coupling, and optionally a connection member fixed to the container fabric door adjacent to the inward end of the pocket. The separable strap closure is easy to fasten and unfasten and can be easily repaired without sewing. The strap includes hook or loop fastening portions along its face that attach to mating hook or loop fastener portions on the rear face of the pocket of the fabric door. Also, the portion of the strap or hook/loop fastener portion thereon that connects to the rear face of the pocket may include bright or distinctive coloring so a repair worker can tell when the strap is properly positioned and aligned.

Abstract

A composite flexible fabric is employed as a covering for an opening of a building, such as a window or door. The composite fabric protects the opening from hurricane force winds and associated flying objects. The composite fabric is formed from at least one layer of a fabric comprised of high tenacity fibers and at least one ultraviolet radiation resistant layer which is attached to the high tenacity fiber fabric. The UV resistant layer limits transmission of both UVA and UVB rays preferably to less than about 10% of the radiation incident upon such layer. Preferably, the UV resistant layer is a woven fabric, and the layer of high tenacity fibers is a woven fabric of extended chain polyethylene fibers. An adhesive layer may be used to enhance bonding between the fabric layer and the UV resistant layer.

Abstract

A composite flexible fabric is employed as a covering for an opening of a building, such as a window or door. The composite fabric protects the opening from hurricane force winds and associated flying objects. The composite fabric is formed from at least one layer of a fabric comprised of high tenacity polyolefin fibers and at least one layer of a plastic film. The film is attached to at least one surface of the high tenacity polyolefin fiber fabric. Each of the fabric layer and the film layer are sufficient translucent so as to permit light to enter the opening of the building. The fabric layer provides protection against high wind and impact from projectiles, and the film layer provides an impervious barrier to water, such as wind driven rain. An adhesive layer may be used to enhance bonding between the fabric layer and the film layer.

Abstract

Tubular structures formed of helically wound layers of a composite fabric structure. The fabric structure has an inwardly facing layer in the form of a fabric base. The fabric base comprises a network of high tenacity fibers. The composite fabric structure also includes an outwardly facing layer formed of rubber. The inwardly facing layer and the outwardly facing layer are bonded together, preferably through the use of a bonding layer. The tubular structure may be used as a stand along product, as an antichafing cover for a rope, as a liner for a pipe, or the like.
