Abstract

A casing shoe valve includes a valve body having an internal bore and a connection on each longitudinal end to enable connection of the valve body within a tubular string. A first valve element is fixedly disposed at a first axial location within the internal bore. A second valve element is disposed in the internal bore at a spaced apart axial location from the first valve element, the second valve element being held at the spaced apart axial location by a dissolvable retaining element. A biasing element is arranged to urge the second valve element toward the first valve element. The first and second valve elements are arranged to close the internal bore to fluid flow when they are engaged with each other.

Abstract

A string disconnect for a pipe string has a top sub (12) comprising a sub body (12A) having a threaded connection at each end and a through bore. The top sub has a piston (16) having a ball seat (16A) at one end and an elongated slot at another end disposed in the bore. The piston is held at a top end of the top sub by a biasing device (18) or restraint, and is rotationally locked to the top sub. The slot subtends an angle to a longitudinal axis of the piston. A bottom sub comprises a sub body (14A) having a threaded connection at each end and a release pin (20) extending inwardly from a through bore in the bottom sub and rotationally fixed to the bottom sub. Movement of the piston toward the bottom sub engages the slot (16D) with the release pin (18) to induce torque between the top sub and the bottom sub.

Abstract

A reaming tool includes a housing having a connection at one end for coupling to a pipe string. The housing defines at least one of a rotor and a stator of a turbine. A rotor shaft is rotatably supported on the housing. The rotor shaft has an interior passage and defines the other of a stator and a rotor of the turbine. The rotor shaft has a coupling at one end to attach a well intervention tool. A flow diverter is disposed within the housing. The flow diverter comprises ports to selectively direct flow of fluid from an interior of the housing to either (i) an annular space between the housing and the rotor shaft, or (ii) the interior passage of the rotor shaft. The flow diverter is operable to change direction of the flow of fluid by changing a flow rate of the flow of fluid.

Abstract

A flotation device for a wellbore tubular has a flotation disk having a tapered exterior profile. A maximum external diameter of the flotation disk is such to enable free longitudinal movement within the wellbore tubular. A plurality of locking segments each has a tapered interior profile cooperatively engageable with the tapered exterior profile. Each locking segment has gripping elements on an exterior surface thereof to engage an inner wall of the wellbore tubular. The tapered exterior profile and the tapered interior profile cooperate to expand a diameter of the locking segments as profile engagement increases.

Abstract

A downhole tool (10) configured to condition a borehole (B) and deliver a settable material, such as cement slurry, into a borehole annulus (A)for securing and supporting a casing string (C)in the borehole (B)comprises a body in the form of tubular housing (12), a shaft (14) rotatably mounted within the housing(12), a head portion (22) and a drive arrangement (20). In use, borehole cleaning and cementing operations may be carried out by directing a drive fluid, such as drilling mud, through the drive arrangement (20)to drive rotation of the head portion (22) to clean or condition the borehole (b). A cement slurry or the like, may then be directed through the casing string (C) or via a cementing string (S) into the shaft(14), and through the drive arrangement (20),the fluid then being ejected from the head portion (22).

Abstract

An apparatus for cutting a wellbore includes a motor having a stator and a rotor. The rotor has an output shaft connected to a cutting structure. The stator and rotor are spaced radially outwardly of the axis of rotation of the rotor such that at least one of the stator and the rotor had an access bore extending through the motor to adjacent the cutting structure. A further object can pass therethrough, without obstruction. The further object comprises a further cutting. A flow diverter is disposed in the motor proximate a connection between the motor and a wellbore tubular, and has a first fluid outlet in fluid communication with a power section of the motor, and a second fluid outlet in fluid communication with the access bore. The flow diverter is coupled to the stator such that axial loading created by fluid pressure is substantially transferred to the stator.

Abstract

An apparatus for cutting a wellbore includes a motor with a stator and a rotor. The rotor includes an output shaft connected to a cutting structure to drive the cutting structure in use. The stator and rotor are spaced radially outwardly of the axis of the rotor such that at least one of the stator and the rotor has an access bore that extends through the motor to a position adjacent the cutting structure and through which a further object can pass without obstruction from the stator and rotor. The further object includes a further cutting structure. The motor workings are radially outward of the output shaft and the further cutting structure so as not to obstruct passage of the further cutting structure toward the cutting structure, such that the motor workings do not require drilling or removal to allow the further cutting structure access to the cutting structure.

Abstract

A reaming tool for use in reaming a bore includes a body adapted for location in a bore. The body defines a rotor of a rotary drive arrangement. A shaft adapted for location is disposed in the body. The shaft defines a stator of the rotary drive arrangement. A seal element is disposed between the shaft and the body. The seal element defines a bearing surface for permitting sealed relative rotation of the rotary drive arrangement. The tool includes a reaming member, wherein relative rotation between the body and the shaft facilitates reaming of the bore by the reaming member.

Abstract

A reaming shoe for location in a bore has a rotationally balanced nose. A rotary drive is rotationally coupled to the reaming shoe to enable reaming of the bore. The assembly of the reaming shoe and the rotary drive is adapted to be coupled to a tubular component. The reaming shoe is mounted to the tubular component to enable rotation of the reaming shoe independently of the tubular component, such that the reaming shoe is rotatable at a different rotational speed than the tubular component.

Abstract

A completion system (10) comprises tubular components (22) coupled together to form a completion string (24). In-flow control devices (34) are provided to permit selective fluid communication between an internal bore (26) of the completion string (24) and the annulus (28). A reaming tool (38) is provided at a leading end of the completion string (24) and the reaming tool (38) is run into the borehole (12) with the completion string (24). The reaming tool (38) comprises a fluid-powered drive unit (40), a reaming body (42) and a reaming nose (43). In use, the string (24) is located in the borehole (12) and fluid is directed to the reaming tool (38) to facilitate reaming of the borehole (12). A second tubular in the form of a washpipe (44) extends through the internal bore (26) of the completion string (24) for providing fluid to the reaming tool (38). The reaming tool (38) is operable at a fluid pressure below a pressure which would activate the in-flow control devices (34).
