A photoluminescent capsule illuminator for a sighting device. The photoluminescent illuminator includes an elongated phosphor housing having sidewalls and a base. The photoluminescent illuminator includes phosphors in a granular form disposed inside the phosphor housing. The photoluminescent illuminator includes a cap sealing the phosphors in the phosphor housing. The phosphor housing is disposed in relation to a body of the sighting device such that photoluminescent light emitted from the phosphors exits the phosphor housing and identifies a location of a sight on the sighting device.

A method for passively illuminating an instrument face and a passively illuminated instrument. The method provides adjacent the instrument face a photoluminescent material encased in a polymer, exposes the photoluminescent material encased in the polymer to an activation source, and illuminates the instrument face by light emitted from the photoluminescent material. A passively illuminated instrument includes a photoluminescent material encased in a polymer and disposed adjacent the instrument face. Upon exposure of the photoluminescent material encased in the polymer to the activation source, the photoluminescent material emits light to illuminate the instrument face.
Methods and systems are described herein for an article of manufacture for use in a weapon sight wherein the article of manufacture comprises a passively charged photoluminescent material. When installed in a weapon sight, the passively charged photoluminescent material provides light to a fiber optic of the weapon sight during low light conditions to illuminate a reticle pattern of the weapon sight.

The present invention provides methods and systems for moveable pieces of equipment comprising a passively charged photoluminescent material to improve visibility of the equipment in low light conditions. This moveable piece of equipment may be a piece of ground support equipment such as that used in support of an operation. Further, these operations may include, for example, nautical operations (e.g., Naval operations or ocean-going cargo transportation), construction of a structure (e.g., building construction), aviation (i.e., flight) operations (e.g., in support of an airport), transportation of goods (e.g., via rail or truck), drilling operations (e.g., drilling for oil, water, gas or explosives), mining operations, oil processing (refinery) operations etc.
