Abstract

The present invention relates to a novel integrated process to extract and purify levulinic acid (LA) produced from the technical lignin waste (2-G residue) generated after second generation (2-G) ethanol production from biomass. In this process, liquid-liquid extraction was carried out using fusel oil as an organic extractant to yield a LA rich organic phase and an acidic aqueous phase (raffinate). In addition, selected amines improved the LA yields by acting synergistically. Further fractional distillation was carried out to purify LA. The acidic raffinate is recycled back to the reaction in multiple times, which reduce the use of additional catalyst and make the overall process cost effective. The process is very simple and suitable to remove any colour and humins (soluble tar), which would otherwise form a problem in subsequent process step, particularly in distillation. At optimized process conditions 95% LA is recovered with 98% purity.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a process for producing levulinic acid from the technical lignin. The technical lignin is rich in lignin and ash and do not have any other use and usually incinerated as a waste management strategy. During the incineration process, the cellulose also gets burnt and wasted. In the present disclosure, there is provided an economical and environmentally friendly process to produce levulinic acid from the technical lignin by using a synergistic combination of catalysts for high yields and high titer with acid recycling in a cost-effective manner

Abstract

An integrated approach for utilizing waste products of 2G bio-refineries to fractionate the lignin of high purity. The present invention also provides a method of recycling of two waste products (2-G ethanol residue as the substrate (LRBR) and fusel oil/synthetic fusel oil (SFO) as one of the solvent) of the biorefineries in a beneficial manner to fractionate the lignin of high purity. The present method of separating high purity lignin comprises fractioning extractive-free lignin rich residue with a solvent, wherein the solvent is a mixture of SFO/Fusel oil and Formic acid. An optimized ratio of waste fusel oil and formic acid gave more than >85% yields of high purity lignin.

Brevibacillus laterosporus LAK 1210 which results in amino acid substitution of tyrosine (Y) residue with histidine (H) at positions 221 and 720. The modified chitinase exhibits both exochitinase and endochitinase activity. The recombinant, modified enzyme is thermoactive with a temperature optimum of 55-60° C. and high thermostability (Tm of 66.7° C.), functions in a broad pH range (pH 3.0-11.0) having a pH optimum of 9.0 and also exhibits improved solubility and enhanced efficacy for control of insects and phytopathogenic fungi. The invention further provides improved methods for large scale production of recombinant modified chitinase and rapid, cost-effective purification method by chitin-adsorption affinity chromatography using powdered crustacean shells.

Abstract

The present invention provides a process for enzyme mediated hydrolysis of biomass for production of soluble sugars, wherein the said process comprises of steady addition of small portions of biomass to enzyme solution, enabling rapid solubilization of biomass. The process used for enzymatic saccharification allows for increased biomass loading, enzyme recycle and mitigation of substrate and product inhibitory effect. The recycling of unhydrolysed biomass along with soluble enzyme ensures complete reuse of the said enzyme for effective repeated hydrolysis thereby increasing the overall productivity of enzyme used.

Abstract

A collector for fecal discharge is provided comprising a self-expanding resilient collection component, a housing sheath and a transit component. The collection component has an open proximal and distal end and a lumen connecting them. The component comprises interconnected resilient arms circumscribing its contour, wherein adjacent arms are resiliently biased away from each other for exerting outwardly radial pressure for expanding and anchoring the component to rectal walls upon deployment. The housing sheath comprises a flexible and resilient material overlaying at least one of inner or outer contour of collection component without interfering with or blocking its ends or lumen. The transit component provides a conduit for fecal discharge to migrate from collection component to a receptacle and comprises a flexible, tubular sheath having a first open end connected to a second end by a lumen, wherein the first end engages with the proximal end of the collection component.

Abstract

Chimeric tumor suppressor activating peptides derived from matrix attachment region binding protein (MARBP) SMARI unique in their sequence comprising a arginine rich motif flanked by serine residues wherein from the stretch of four consecutive serine residues the first serine residue gets phosphorylated by the protein kinase C family of serine threonine kinases being indispensable for its functionality, the phosphorylation being directly correlated to the phosphorylation of p53 at serine 15 residue thereby stabilizing it, wherein the peptide activates p53 by modifying it post translationally which allow phosphorylation and translocation of p53 to the nucleus.

Abstract

A method of preparing dialysed aqueous extract of fenugreek seeds comprising washing the fenugreek seeds is distilled water, sterilizing the said seeds, subjecting the sterilized seeds to the step of grinding to form powder, suspending the said powder in phosphate buffered saline (PBS), subjecting the said suspension to the step of filtration to obtain the filtrate, treating the filtrate with activated charcoal to obtain clear supernatant, subjecting the supernatant to the step of lyophilization and the powder thus obtained was dissolved in phosphate buffered saline (PBS), dialyzing the aqueous extract of fenugreek seeds to obtain dialysed fenugreek seed extract (FSE) which was aliquoted and stored.

Abstract

Maintenance of quiescent hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPC) in culture without the addition of exogenous growth factors is an important aspect in clinical hematology. A recent report described the ability of Flt3 receptor-interacting lectin (FRIL) in the maintenance of cord blood (CB) derived progenitors in vitro. Since FRIL is a mannose binding lectin we examined the effectiveness of four such lectins of well-characterized specificities on the preservation of HSPC of CB origin. The HSPC preservation activity of lectins was assessed by in vitro colony forming unit (CFU) and long-term culture initiating cell (LTC-IC) assays. It was found that all four lectins had a HSPC preservation activity at least up to 30 days in culture without addition of exogenous growth factors. The results indicate that use of such lectins may provide a cost effective method of HSPC maintenance for clinical use.

Abstract

The present invention provides a novel pharmaceutical composition consisting of a combination of three coumarinolignoids of formula 1, 2 and 3 isolated from the seeds of the plant Cleome viscosa along with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier useful as a immunomodulator. The invention also describes the ability of the compounds to modulate humoral and cell mediated immune response. It further provides a process for the preparation of a novel pharmaceutical composition of the said three coumarinolignoids in an optimized ratio to modulate humoral and cell mediated immune response.
