Abstract

A dryer inlet aspirator for pre-cleaning grain, including an aspirator housing; an air inlet and an air outlet formed in the housing, for distributing an air stream through the aspirator; a grain input and a grain output formed in the housing. The aspirator also includes a main distribution plate for guiding a stream of the grain in a first direction within the aspirator; and a lower distribution plate beneath the main distribution plate, positioned at an angle relative to the main distribution plate to receive the stream of the grain and further guide the stream of the grain in a second direction within said aspirator. A lower edge of the main distribution plate is spaced from the lower distribution plate to constrict the flow of the stream of the grain from the main distribution plate to the lower distribution plate.

Abstract

A moisture soil probe system includes a probe having a solid rod with a plurality of sensors attached around the outer circumference of the rod in close proximity to the soil being measured, covered by a waterproof coating. A wireless transmitter unit receives a precision GPS timing signal which is propagated to logic and control circuitry associated with each sensor for use in calculating a volumetric moisture content of the soil in proximity to the sensor. The calculated moisture content is transmitted back to the wireless control unit which further transmits the data to a central station.

Abstract

Disclosed herein is a method of automatically calibrating a liquid treatment system in a seed treater. The method is performed by pumping a seed treatment liquid using a seed treater pump, receiving the seed treatment liquid in a container, detecting when a predetermined volume of seed treatment liquid has filled the container using a first level sensor and a second level sensor and automatically adjusting a flow rate of the liquid in response to a time required to fill the container. Adjusting the flow rate may be done by adjusting a speed of the pump.

Abstract

A flow-through discharge assembly having a rotatable tube section and an opening through which product is discharged and a positioning apparatus for rotating the tube section between operation and non-operational conditions. When the tube is positioned in an operational orientation, grain exits through the opening for discharge from the assembly. When the tube is returned to a non-operational condition, the tube opening is blocked and grain is prevented from exiting through the opening. The tube opening may be a single elongated opening or may include multiple tube openings through which product is discharged. A method of using a rotary discharge assembly to control grain flow within a grain handling system is also disclosed.

Abstract

An auger protection system used in a stirring system is disclosed. According to a first preferred embodiment, an auger protection system is provided which protects augers on a stirring machine from breaking or bending. Accordingly to this first preferred embodiment, the auger protection system includes a switch which is enclosed in a housing and connected to a timer which supplies power to a gear motor that propels the unit around a silo. Preferably, the housing for the holding switch is attached pivotally to the structure on which the down auger is connected. Additionally, the auger protection system preferably further includes a spring which is connected to a pivot assembly and which extends horizontally and comes in contact with the down auger at one end.

Abstract

A cylindrical upstanding water tank is formed from a plurality of rows of corrugated curved panels bolted edge to edge with a liner extending over the cylindrical wall and support surface to contain the water within the tank. An access opening is formed in one panel of the cylindrical wall and includes a frame with a rectangular planar front flange and a rearwardly extending flange welded into the hole. Liner retention straps surround the hole to fasten an edge of the liner around the hole. An access cover plate is bolted to the front flange of the frame and carries a hoop strength plate which fastens to studs at the rear of the plane so that the plates are removable to allow service access to the interior of the tank.

Abstract

A novel collapsible aeration system is retrofitted into a grain bin with a discharge opening in the bottom. This grain bin may have a sloped or conical hopper or a flat bottom. The aeration system is formed from a set of connected (e.g. hinged) duct sections that define a round or multi-sided duct having a minimum of three sides or faces. The sides may be flat, curved or corrugated. The collapsible aeration system is folded (collapsed), inserted into the bin via a hole, and then unfolded inside the bin. An air duct is connected to the aeration system to enable the aeration system to dry the grain in the grain bin. This technology enables existing grain bins to be retrofitted with a dryer in an easy and efficient manner.

Abstract

A novel aeration system is retrofitted into a grain bin with a discharge opening in the bottom. This grain bin may have a sloped or conical hopper or a flat bottom. The aeration system comprises a plurality of duct sections adapted to be connected together, each duct section having a flat outer surface, a flat inner surface narrower than the outer surface, and a pair of angled surfaces connecting the inner and outer surfaces, the duct sections each defining an internal air space. An air duct is connected to the aeration system to enable the aeration system to dry the grain in the grain bin. This technology enables existing grain bins to be retrofitted with a dryer in an easy and efficient manner.

Abstract

A blower for a particulate loader and transfer apparatus is provided. The blower comprises at least one blade having a proximal and a distal end. A drive mechanism rotates the at least one blade in a direction about an axis of rotation. The proximal end of the blade is nearer to the axis of rotation than the distal end of the blade is to the axis of rotation and the blade is angled so that as the blade rotates about the axis, the proximal end of the blade precedes the distal end of the blade.

Abstract

A roof for a large diameter grain bin is formed by roof rafters inclined from a top of the wall to a top ring, with sheet metal panels in an upper row extending from the ring to a circular bottom edge and a lower row extending from a circular top edge to the wall. A circular bracket of Z-shaped cross section is carried on the rafters by upstanding support legs and provides an upper flange engaging the bottom edge of the upper row and a lower flange engaging the top edge of the lower row and an interconnecting web portion. One or both rows are supported at a mid point on a cylindrical tube bent to form a circle butting the panels and supported from the rafters on leg members which include a center strap which can be bent around the tube and two legs bolted to the rafters.
