Abstract

A cooling tower for evaporative cooling of water is contained within an ISO-compliant shipping container frame, permitting stacking of cooling towers for transport and for certain industrial applications. A volume of fill media is contained within the frame. Spaced apart troughs underlie the fill media, running substantially the length of the fill media and connecting to a basin. Baffles are connected to one upper edge of the troughs, while an air flow space is positioned over the other upper trough edge. A water distribution system, with variable flow nozzles positioned closely above the fill media, sprays water over the upper surface of the fill media, where it moves by gravity down into the troughs. Fans atop the fill media move air vertically upward through the fill media.

Abstract

A fuel gas blending system for internal combustion engines combines two or more gas streams to achieve a blended fuel gas having a suitable heating value (HV) for a given engine. A relatively high HV gas, for example gas produced from an oil and/or gas well, or containerized propane, is blended with a relatively low HV gas, for example nitrogen. The blended gas achieves a fuel gas with a suitable HV. Suitable means for combining the gas streams, analyzing the blended gas stream for HV and other properties, and adjusting the blend as needed are all provided. The system permits use of available gaseous fuel sources, even if not suitable in an unblended state, to efficiently fuel internal combustion engines.

Abstract

A system and method of use of same for cooling process vessels, particularly those having reactor beds inside such as hydrotreaters, hydrocrackers, and catalytic reformers as part of processing units, during unit turnarounds. While the process vessel is in normal operation or in a preliminary cool down phase, quench gas flow is routed through a bypass flow path while a recirculating gas cooling system is installed in the primary flow path, requiring no unit downtime. During a turnaround, the process vessel temperature is lowered to a desired temperature, permitting entry and replacement of catalyst inventory, using the existing hydrogen recirculating (recycle gas) compressor to circulate a recirculating gas stream through the recirculating gas cooling system, the process vessel, and back through the compressor and recirculating gas cooling system. The cooling system removes heat from the circulating flowstream, thus lowering the process vessel temperature, faster than cold nitrogen injection methods.

Abstract

Methods and systems for controlling power conversion systems. In one aspect, a power management system includes a first power conversion system coupled to a first energy source and a second power conversion system coupled to a second energy source, and a control system. The control system causes, while the first power conversion system is operating in an active mode and the second power conversion system is operating in a standby mode, the second power conversion system to exit the standby mode, the second power conversion system providing a reactive power flow upon exiting the standby mode. The control system causes the first power conversion system to provide a compensatory reactive power flow to compensate for at least a portion of the reactive power flow from the second power conversion system.

Abstract

A water cooling tower having an improved water collection system. The cooling tower has an outer shell, legs, and one or more layers of fill material, through which the water to be cooled moves vertically downward. The water is distributed across the upper surface of the fill material by piping and nozzles. A fan underlying the fill material moves air vertically upward through the fill material. The water collection system, which is positioned below the fill material, has upper and lower troughs which receive water flowing vertically downward through the fill material. Preferably, the lower troughs are positioned beneath the spaces between upper troughs, to catch water falling between the upper troughs. A number of hinged baffles close off the spaces between lower troughs, but rotate upward in response to upward air flow and open the spaces between the lower troughs.

Abstract

The present invention relates to dehumidification equipment and more particularly, to a dehumidification system and method for use in hazardous locations. In particular, there is provided a desiccant wheel assembly for use in a dehumidification system. The desiccant wheel assembly includes a cabinet and a desiccant wheel rotatively mounted within the cabinet. The desiccant wheel has a core impregnated with a desiccant material and an electrically conductive outer shell surrounding the core. Means are provided for driving rotation of the desiccant wheel within the cabinet. The desiccant wheel assembly further includes a static control device connected to a ground and associated with the desiccant wheel for discouraging the build-up of electrostatic charges on the desiccant wheel during rotation thereof. A dehumidification system comprising such a desiccant wheel assembly is also described along with a method for dehumidifying air in an enclosed space using a desiccant wheel dehumidification system.
