Abstract

A rotary tablet press comprises a machine frame comprising a press housing and a compression assembly in the press housing including pressure roll assemblies. A connection base extends outwardly from the press housing. A detachable turret module is removably mountable to the base assembly comprising a module base supporting a turret housing. A turret assembly is rotatably mounted in the turret housing about a vertical axis. The turret assembly comprises a plurality of die stations. The turret module is selectively positioned at the base assembly so that the pressure roll assemblies engage the turret assembly to compress a granulation into a tablet at the die stations. A cart is operatively secured to the module base and comprises a controllable lifting mechanism for raising and lowering the turret module to selectively position the module base on the connection base.

Abstract

As described herein, a multiple row turret module is for use in a rotary tablet press comprising a pressure roll assembly and a turret drive assembly. The multiple row turret module includes a turret comprising a hub selectively engageable by the drive assembly for rotation about a vertical axis. The hub supports a die table and upper and lower guideways defining a plurality of stations. Each station comprises an upper punch opening in the upper guideway and an aligned die opening in the die table and a lower punch opening in the lower guideway. The stations are aligned in a plurality of concentric rows. A plurality of upper punches are provided, one in each of the upper punch openings. A plurality of lower punches are provided, one in each of the lower punch openings. An upper cam assembly is supported above the upper guideway for selectively reciprocating the plurality of concentric rows of upper punches toward and away from the die openings responsive to rotation of the turret. A lower cam assembly is supported below the lower guideway for selectively reciprocating the plurality of concentric rows of lower punches toward and away from the die openings responsive to rotation of the turret. The pressure roll assemblies selectively engage the upper and lower punches responsive to rotation of the turret to compress a granulation into a tablet at the stations.

Abstract

The rotary tablet press comprises a machine base assembly and detachable module. Granulation is fed into the module from the hopper and travels into the feeder chamber. The base assembly comprises motorized pressure roll assemblies and a turret drive assembly. The detachable module comprises a module base, turret base, turret, cam body, cams, feeder, tablet discharge chute, hopper, upper enclosure, and guard doors. The rotary turret comprises upper punches, dies, and lower punches. As the turret rotates, the dies move underneath the feeder chamber. The rotary feeder paddles move the granulation and assist with feeding powder to the dies. Punches travel along cam tracks as the turret rotates and compresses the powder into a tablet when the punches contact the pressure rolls. An ejection cam pushes the lower punch in the upward direction and a take-off bar mounted just above the die table directs the tablet into a discharge chute. The detachable module is sealed by incorporating an upper enclosure.

Abstract

A tooling inspection and analysis system measures tooling quality of a multi-tip tablet punch having a barrel with a plurality of tips each having a tip cup for forming a tablet. The system comprises a base. A carriage assembly has a cavity for supporting a multi-tip tablet punch, which when in use is aligned with an X-axis. A Y-axis linear slide mounts the carriage assembly to the base for movement relative to the base along a Y-axis. A sensor is adapted to measure distance. A Z-axis linear slide mounts the sensor to the base for movement relative to the base along a Z-axis. A programmable controller is operatively connected to the Y-axis linear slide, the Z-axis linear slide and the sensor. The controller is programmed to move the carriage assembly and the sensor to automatically align the sensor to measure working length of each tip of a multi-tip tablet punch mounted in the cavity.
