Improved apparatus and methods of operating a turn up apparatus on a paper machine to improve the performance of a paper machine turn up process is presented. The apparatus may include a cross track with an internal slot for a paperband to move upon and affixed a surface that is proximate to the first internal slot. The first apron may lie across a surface above a location for the paperband and interact with the paperband when the paperband is pulled out of the apparatus during a turn-up operation. An apron tensioning device may provide an additional force against an edge of a surface of the apron. A curved track may hold the paperband at an angle to an axis of the cross track, and the paperband feeding device may advance the paperband during a portion of a turn-up operation.
Improved apparatus and methods of operating turn-up apparatus on a paper machine to improve performance of a paper machine turn-up process via the inclusion of the ability to vary an amount of tension on a paperband being deployed during a turn-up procedure. A cross track may have a first internal slot for the paperband to move upon and a second slot to support a first adjustable track top holder. The apparatus may include a turn-up tape dispenser fixedly attached to a proximal end of a transverse track and movable with the transverse track along the first linear bearing. The paper band may be coiled via manual operation or via automated operation. Coiling apparatus may be modularly replaced on a paper making machine. The coiled paper band may be supported within the reservoir on rollers, pins, or other items conducive to fast and reliable uncoiling.

The track body of the tape delivery assembly extending across the paper web comprises a dual internal pathway, having a primary longitudinal channel and a secondary longitudinal channel through which a primary or secondary tape is passed, respectively. A torn paper web capture system that is a mechanism for securing a band, tape or strap, preferably composed of paper, across a paper roll as the roll is rotating. A sensor means detects the torn paper web and initiates both the shut down of rotation of the paper roll and the release of the band. The band resides within a guide track, the track being generally C-shaped in cross-section Upon contact with spool journal or similar rotating member the end of the band adheres and is wrapped around the rotating member. This wrapping action takes up the slack in the band and pulls it from the guide track and against the paper web, thereby securing the loose end of the paper web. The contact between the band and the rotating member may be initiated in multiple ways, such as with a nip roller, an actuating shoe member, or the like.
