Abstract

Herbaspirillum bacterial strains are engineered to express or overexpress one or more proteins and/or attenuate expression of or delete one or more genes involved in nitrogen fixation and its regulation. This enables the diazotrophic bacteria to secrete more ammonia. The engineered bacteria arc introduced to agricultural plants, or seeds for growing such, forming a symbiotic relationship that results in increased nitrogen availability to the plant and improved plant agronomic traits.

Abstract

An automated seed treatment system is adapted for on-site operation at a retail seed distributor. A sealed seed-treater vessel is configured to apply a plurality of chemical treatments to a batch of seed based on a seed treatment recipe. A programmable system controller is electrically coupled to a pump controller of each of a plurality of pump-stations. The programmable system controller is configured to receive a material transfer indication from each of the plurality of pump-stations and issue commands to the pump controller of each pump-station in response to the seed treatment recipe. The programmable system controller is configured to collect operational data representing at least consumption of chemical from the chemical container at each of the pump-stations based on the corresponding material transfer indication during seed treatment and to provide the operational data to a remotely hosted information system located remotely from the site of the retail seed distributor and accessible to at least one third party that is distinct from the retail seed distributor.

Abstract

The invention relates to weed mapping, monitoring and control, in particular to the mapping, monitoring and control of invasive annual grasses. A computer system comprises a receiving unit providing a processing unit with images of a geographical area, the images displaying the geographical area at points in time during a phenological cycle of a weed. At least two images depicting a weed at two different phenological stages may be used because two sequentially collected images are required in order to identify a characteristic temporal change. The processing unit analyzes the images to identify image areas showing a spectral signature characteristic of the weed. The processing unit identifies geographical sub-areas corresponding to the identified image areas and to create a weed distribution map with the identified geographical sub-areas marked as areas affected by the weed. The output unit is configured to output the map.

Abstract

An animal trap system includes a glue board, an animal trap accelerometer sensor, and a signal unit in close proximity to and in communications with the animal trap accelerometer sensor, wherein the signal unit also contains an accelerometer sensor. The animal trap system is capable of detecting capture events, non-capture events, false positives, and/or the type of animal captured by using differential signal analysis and machine learning techniques. When an acceleration is received by the animal trap accelerometer sensor above a pre-set acceleration threshold value, it sends a capture signal to the signal unit and if the signal unit does not receive such acceleration event, the signal unit transmits a capture signal to an off- site receiver. A method of trapping one or more animals using this system is also provided.

Abstract

A method of reducing downward migration of a pesticide (optionally in soil or turf), comprising applying a composition comprising a pesticide that is solubilized in a water-immiscible solvent to form an oil in water emulsion or an emulsifiable concentrate, wherein said pesticide exhibits superior performance against a targeted pest due to decreased downward migration in soil as compared with said pesticide which is not in an oil in water emulsion or emulsifiable concentrate form.

Abstract

A mixing assembly (10) includes a drum (11) including a side wall (13), a top portion (15), and a bottom portion (17), in which the top portion (15) includes a first opening (19) for filling a substance into the drum (11), a second opening (12) for mixing the substance in the drum (11), and a third opening (14) for extracting the substance from the drum (11); and a mixer (105) releasably disposed in the drum (11), including a head (109) releasably attached to the second opening (12) for mixing, in which the head (109) includes a housing including an internal hollow region extending along the central axis of the head (109), and external threads configured to be attached to the second opening (12) for mixing by thread engagement, a shaft (107) disposed in the hollow region, and an impeller assembly (114) disposed at a bottom end of the shaft (107) for stirring the substance in the drum. The mixing assembly (10) also includes a a sump (16) that is substantially vertically aligned with the third opening (14) for extracting, wherein the bottom portion (17) is sloped toward the sump (16) so that the substance will flow along the sloped bottom portion (17) into the sump (16), wherein the sump (16) comprises a base defining a lowest surface of the bottom portion (17) so that the sump (16) will receive the substance that flows from the sloped bottom portion (17).
