Abstract

It is intended to provide a mat material which is a material made of an abandoned or unutilized wood-free vegetable fiber and usable as a substitute for soil in raising seedlings and by which rice seedlings can be highly smoothly raised without causing growth disorders in raising rice seedlings. A material for raising rice seedlings in the shape of a porous mat which is obtained by mixing a pulp material made of a powdery matter obtained by finely grinding a herbaceous plant belonging to the family of Poaceae and disinfecting with boiling water, a non-heated granular material of fresh bamboo having been ground to give a length in the fiber direction of several mm or less and a granular material of palm having been ground to give a length in the fiber direction of several mm or less too, adding water to the mixture, stirring and kneading the mixture and then compression molding it into a plate followed by dewatering and drying.
