Abstract

A novel process for producing an ingot of a copper-iron base alloy is provided by which a copper-iron base alloy ingot reduced in iron segregation, i.e., iron concentration unevenness within the ingot, is obtained even when the alloy is solidified into a relatively large casting mass. The process comprises subjecting a raw material comprising 3-50 mass% iron, 97-50 mass%, excluding both 97 mass% and 50 mass%, copper, and incidental impurities as the remainder to mixing, melting, and solidification to obtain an ingot of the copper-iron base alloy. The process comprises melting the raw material in a 2,000-Hz or higher high-frequency melting furnace, introducing the melt into a tundish having a planar sectional area at least two times that of the melting furnace, holding the melt therein for 1-3 minutes, subsequently pouring the melt through the discharge port into a ladle equipped with an electromagnetic stirrer, pouring the melt into a water-cooled casting die after or while stirring the melt, and rapidly solidifying the melt at a cooling rate of 100-150ºC/min.

Abstract

To provide a novel antibacterial substance which originates in a natural substance and has a broad antibacterial spectrum and an elevated potency, an antibacterial substance DM0507 obtained by a production method comprising the following steps (a) to (d) is provided: (a) culturing Bacillus subtilis; (b) collecting the supernatant from the thus obtained culture; (c) adjusting the pH value of the supernatant to 3 or less and collecting the precipitate thus formed; and (d) extracting the precipitate with ethanol.
