HINGEDLY CONNECTABLE DISK TRAYS AND DISK STORAGE SYSTEM WITH THE SAME
A disk storage system for disks having a central opening includes a set of hingedly connectable disk trays(10), a pair of axle members(30) for attachment to one of the trays(10) on axle axis(21) thereof, and a storage container(40) having hinge pedestals(46) for engagement by the axle members(30). Hinged connections between adjacent trays(10) is implemented by tabs(16) that are pivoted on respective hinge axes(17) of the different trays, the tabs(16) are engageable with respective tab cavities(22) of adjacent trays.
A container for a disk having a central opening (25) includes a base (12) having a pedestal for holding a disk, a hingedly connected lid (14), and a laterally spaced pair of latches (52) for locking the container closed. Also disclosed are interior of the base (12) and lid (14) that have edgewise proximal engagement, a disk pressure structure (70) for holding edge extremities of the disk in place during mishandling of the container, and rib members that block entry of a destructive blade (84) in an endwise path through regions of facing contact adjacent to living hinges of the container.
A holder for a disk having a central opening includes a base(12), a forwardly projecting ring(40) for supporting the disk, a diaphragm(48) supported within the ring member(40), and a button structure(44) projecting forwardly from the diaphragm(48) for engaging the central opening. Retainer members(52) project radially outwardly from the central opening proximate the front face surface for releasably holding the disk when the diaphragm member(48) is in a relaxed position. Downward pressure on the button structure(44) deflects the diaphragm(48) to move the retainer members(52) inwardly for releasing the disk. The retainer members(52) are on hook stem members(50) that are rigidly joined to an inner extremity of the diaphragm(48) in radial alignment with circumferentially spaced ring attachment locations of the diaphragm(48). Button stem members(46) rigidly connect a button member(44) to the diaphragm(48) in alternating circumferentially spaced relation to the hook stem memebers(50) to provide greatly enhanced lateral support of the disk.

A holder for a disk having a central opening and front and back surfaces includes a base having a planar panel and a forwardly projecting pedestal including a ring for supporting the disk, an inwardly extending disk member, a plurality of stem members for engaging the disk opening, and a corresponding plurality of U-shaped connector segments supporting the stem members in cantilevered relation to the disk member. Alternating ones of the stem members have outwardly projecting retainer members and inwardly projecting tab members, collectively forming a button surface for receiving downward pressure whereby the disk is releasable. Deformation of the pedestal in response to the downward pressure is concentrated in the connector segments and, to a limited extent, an innermost portion of the disk member, providing improved structural integrity for a given downward force required to release the disk.
