Abstract
A method of forming a dental tool or instrument having a memorized shape. The method comprises selecting a nitinol wire having an initial transition temperature below room temperature; grinding the nitinol wire to form the dental tool or instrument so as to have a shank, located adjacent a first end, and a working area, with at least one cutting edge, located adjacent an opposite second leading end; molding the working area into a molded shape having at least one protrusion formed therein; heating the dental tool or instrument to both: a) alter the initial transition temperature of the dental tool or instrument to a final transition temperature, and b) memorize the molded shape including the at least one protrusion so that the dental tool or instrument will automatically return to the molded shape having the at least one protrusion when at a temperature at or above the final transition temperature

Abstract
The present invention concerns an endodontic instrument (10) for preparing a tooth of a patient, in particular an instrument for cleaning the root canal that follows the natural geometry of said canal. The instrument (10) comprises a rigid tip (11) arranged to be mounted on a rotating support (102) of an apparatus (103) called a contra-angle, and a working sector (12). Said working sector (12) comprises a free end section (13), and is arranged to be engaged in said root canal (101). The working sector (12) consists of a first substantially straight active segment (14), disposed in the extension of said rigid tip (11), and at least one second active segment (15) comprising said free end section (13). In the static state, said second active segment (15) is substantially straight and in said dynamic state said second active segment (15) has a curved shape.

Abstract
The invention relates to an endodontic instrument (20) for drilling root canals in a tooth. Said instrument comprises a working area (21) arranged so as to form and/or shape and/or cut the inner wall of the root canal. To this end, it is provided with a plurality of flutes wound around a central axis in the form of a spiral, within a conical envelope (25) having a cross-section that becomes narrower from one end (23) to the other end (26) of the instrument. Said working area (21) is sub-divided into adjacent segments (S) wherein the flutes alternately have a straight section and a section that is twisted in the form of a spiral and are arranged in such a way that the edges thereof are located either on the conical envelope (25) or inside said envelope on the straight sections or on the twisted sections.

Abstract
The present invention relates to a handpiece (10) equipped with an instrument holder head (11) comprising a retaining support (12) for the attachment of the end piece (13) of an endodontal instrument (14). This instrument is designed to change shape as a function of a change in temperature and comprises a working zone (15) which is designed to mill a root canal (16) of a molar (17). In a conventional way, the instrument (14) is rotationally driven to file the walls of the root canal and extract the dentine in order to prepare the space intended to be filled with a root treatment compound. The handpiece (10) is also equipped with a heating unit (18), arranged at the base of the instrument holder head (11) and provided with a central bore (19) through which the retaining support (12) passes. This heating unit (18) comprises at least one reel (20) of resistive wire supplied with alternating current from two terminals (21) housed in the handpiece (10). It allows energy to be supplied to the instrument (14) if necessary in order to bring about a change in temperature liable to alter the shape of the working zone (15) thereof while it is being used.

Abstract
The invention relates to an endodontic instrument (10) for drilling root canals, in particular a flexible drilling instrument, comprising a working part (11) and a securing end fitting (12) intended for mounting the instrument in a mandrel of a contra-angle-type support provided with an electric motor used to drive same clockwise. The casing of the working part (11) is conical along the length thereof and ends in a tip (13). The working part (11) is provided with a spiral flute (14) forming a ridge (20) having a cutting edge (24). The drill bit, relief and cutting angles defined by the cutting edge (24) can be varied along the length of the working part (11) so that the instrument is particularly sharp in the area near the tip (13) and so that the profile of the cutting ridge (24) becomes progressively more blunt along the length of the instrument (10).

Abstract
The invention relates to an endodontic instrument (10) for drilling the root canals (21) of a tooth (20). Said instrument (10) comprises a working area (11) for forming and/or shaping and/or cutting the wall of the root canal (21) of the tooth (20). Said working area (11) is provided with a supporting endpiece (13) that is attachable to a manual or mechanically driven mounting (14). The working area (11) is arranged so as to assume a stowed configuration when the instrument (10) is in an inoperative position, and a structured expanded configuration when the instrument is in a working position, the transition from the inoperative position to the working position and vice versa being caused by predetermined variations in the temperature of the instrument. To this end, the working area (11) is made from a wire of a metal alloy having shape-memory properties or particular elasticity properties.

Abstract
The invention concerns a method and a device for monitoring and identifying a medical instrument, capable of being incorporated in the instrument itself, and provided with the sufficient storage capacity to store all the data relative to the use of the instrument. The device for monitoring and identifying the medical instrument (10) comprises an electronic component (14) integrated in the grip (11) of said instrument. Said electronic component is an electronic label consisting of an integrated circuit comprising a storage unit containing variable data based on the use to which the instrument (10) is put and means for writing and/or modifying and reading said data. Said label communicates by radio frequency with the software of a motor driving the instrument via read/write interface module to allow said software to monitor said motor based on the cyclic fatigue value of the odontological instrument.
