Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of hydraulic fluids in plastic injection molding processes. Thereby it was surprisingly found that the use of hydraulic fluids with the right combination of physical parameters like the viscosity grade, the viscosity index, the density and the dispersancy allows for significant energy savings in plastic injection molding processes (PIM). The PIM process is an industrial process to manufacture plastic parts at well controlled temperatures, pressures and cycle times. The energy consumption of the process became more important over the last years, however, other parameters like process stability and accuracy of plastic part parameters as well as machine protection and long oil drain intervals have to be satisfying.

Abstract

The invention relates to the additivation of thermoplastics, in particular polyvinyl chloride (PVC), using a novel single-component additive. The thus achieved improvement of the lubricating properties leads to a delayed melting of the thermoplasts during the extrusion process and thus to an advantageous fluidity and a reduction of the required processing pressure. Furthermore, the improved lubricating effect facilitates the processing in shaping machines in that a lower metal adhesion is produced. According to the invention, a novel poly(meth)acrylate-based additive for thermoplastics, in particular for PVC, is provided in order to improve said technical aspects. The additive is characterized by a poly(meth)acrylate backbone and long alkyl side-chains.

Abstract

The invention relates to a polyalkyl (meth) acrylate for improving lubricating oil properties, which comprises repetition units which are derived from (meth) acrylates having 6 to 22 carbon atoms in the alcohol residues, and repetition units which are derived from amine derivatives of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The invention further relates to methods for producing and using the present polyalkyl (meth) acrylate.
