Abstract

A fuel pick-up device comprises a head (11), a float (14) arranged for rising and falling with the level of fuel in a tank and an elongate flexible coiled pick-up duct (13) extending helically between the float (14) and the head (11). An elongate constraint (10) extends downwardly from the head (11) and is arranged to at least partially constrain the float (14) against radial movement. The float (14) comprises an annular body (17) at its lower end which is provided with a fuel inlet (15) connected to a lower end of the duct (13). The float (14) further comprises a buoyant float member (16) at its upper end, the float member having a diameter D1 which is less than the diameter D2 of a void V defined by the helically extending coiled duct (13). In use, when the fuel tank is full, the float member (16) nests inside the void V and enables the fuel inlet (15) to rise closer to the surface of the fuel, reducing the risk of drawing contaminants suspended at lower levels in the tank.

Abstract

A fuel pick-up device comprises a head (12), a float (15) arranged for rising and falling along an axis with the level of fuel in a tank, an elongate flexible pick-up duct (14) extending from the float towards the head (12) and an elongate constraint (10) mounted to the head (12), the constraint (10) being arranged to at least partially constrain the float (15) against radial movement relative to the axis, wherein the elongate constraint (10) comprises a plurality of axially disposed sections (10A) - (10E) mounted end-to-end and secured to each other by flanges (30), (32). During installation, the elongate constraint (10) is inserted in sections. Accordingly, there only needs to be enough room externally of the fuel tank to allow each section (10A) - (10E) to be independently inserted one at time through the aperture (35) in the wall T1 of the tank. In this manner it is possible to fit the fuel pick-up device to a fuel tank having limited space around the tank.

Abstract

A fuel pick-up device for fitting to a fuel tank comprises a head (12) at a proximal end thereof, an elongate tubular constraint (10) extending from the head (12) towards a distal end of the device, a float (15) arranged for rising and falling with the level of fuel in the tank and an elongate flexible pick-up tube (14) extending from the float (15) to a fuel outlet (13) at the head (12) of the device. An open end of the constraint (10) at the distal end of the device is closed by a shroud (23) which is displaceable axially of the constraint. The shroud (23) acts to radially constrain the position of the float (15) and alleviates any risk of the float member becoming trapped at the bottom of the tank during installation. Furthermore, the shroud (23) prevents persons from tampering with the float member.

Abstract

A fuel pick-up device (11) for a fuel tank (10) comprises a float (17) arranged for rising and falling with the level of fuel (F) in the tank (10) and a plurality of elongate flexible tubes (16a, 16b) extending helically from the float (17) to a fuel outlet (15) of the device (11), the float (17) being arranged for generally vertical movement within an apertured sleeve (13). The flexible tubes (16a, 16b) are sufficiently thin to allow the float (17) to freely rise and fall with the level of the fuel (F). However, the combined cross-sectional area of the ducts provided by the plurality of flexible tubes (16a, 16b) is sufficient to allow fuel to be drawn from the tank at a high flow rate sufficient for large engines.

Abstract

A manifold device (10) for fuel and other liquids, the device (10) comprising a sealed hollow body which defines an inlet chamber (14) and an outlet chamber (15), an inlet port (16) connected to the inlet chamber (14) and a plurality of outlet ports (17a), (17b) connected to the outlet chamber (15). The manifold device (10) prevents any machine or other apparatus that is drawing liquid from one of the outlet ports e.g. (17a) from being starved of liquid in the event that another apparatus is drawing liquid from another outlet port e.g. (17b) at a higher rate.

Abstract

A float device for use in drawing liquids such as fuel from a tank or other reservoir is disclosed. The device comprises a float arranged for rising and falling with the level of liquid in the tank and a liquid pick-up duct, which comprises a flexible tube having its free end coupled to the float. The float is arranged for vertical movement within a filter or other member, which encloses the float and the flexible tube. The filter or other member is elongate and tubular in construction and comprises an open lower end.
