Abstract

Disclosed is a silica particle which is dense and contains metal impurities in less quantities. Specifically disclosed is a colloidal silica produced by using an alkyl silicate as a raw material. When a sample is prepared by adding 1% by weight of polydimethylsilane (as an internal standard) to a dried product of the colloidal silica and solid-state 29Si-CP/MAS-NMR spectra are measured on the sample, a peak area ratio as calculated in accordance with the formula: (a peak area for the colloidal silica)/(a peak area for polydimethylsilane) is 15 or less. Also disclosed is a method for producing the colloidal silica.

Abstract

[PROBLEMS] To provide a high-concentration and high-purity silica sol which is inhibited from viscosity increase in the state of a manufactured article and is therefore stable and lowly viscous over a long period and a process for the production of the silica sol; and to provide a high-concentration and high-purity silica sol produced by a process which comprises incorporating a dispersant in a specific concentration into a reaction fluid or a solvent-replaced concentrate and thereby enables the production of silica sol without viscosity increase or gelation independently of the size of silica particles contained in the sol and a process for the production of the silica sol. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A silica sol synthesized by an alkoxide method which contains a dispersant and silica as the essential components, characterized in that the dispersant is contained in a concentration of 10 to 3000ppm based on the silica and consists of at least one member selected from among inorganic acids, inorganic acid salts, organic acids and organic acid salts whose decomposition temperatures and boiling points are 60° or above and the silica concentration of the sol is 20wt% or above; and a process for the production of the silica sol.
