The invention relates to a self-locking nut (1) having an upper threaded collar (3) provided with longitudinal slots (7), being V or U shaped, also with sharp edge, defining in the collar a plurality of circular arc segments (9) compressed by an external helical spring (5), and in which the collar slots have such a width as not to allow the mutual contact of the circular arc segments (9) compressed by the spring. The spring of the self-locking nut is made of precipitation hardening stainless steel whereby it shows high constancy of braking torque features even for repeated screwing/unscrewing cycles. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing the nut.
F16B 39/28 - Locking of screws, bolts, or nuts in which the locking takes place during screwing down or tightening by special members on, or shape of, the nut or bolt
The present invention concerns self-locking nuts (1) comprising an upper threaded collar (3) provided with longitudinal slots (7), being V or U shaped, also with sharp edge, defining in the collar itself a plurality of circular arc segments (9) compressed by one or more turns of an external helical spring (5) made of a metal wire (5a), wherein the collar slots (7) have such a width as not to allow the mutual contact of the circular arc segments (9) compressed by the spring (5). The wire (5a) of the spring (5) is made of precipitation hardening stainless steel, and the nuts have values of unscrewing braking torque that differ from one another and are obtained, for nuts (1) having the same diameter, by modifying at least one dimensional parameter (Φd, Φj, 6) of the spring. The invention also concerns a method of manufacturing nuts according to the invention.

F16B 39/284 - Locking by means of elastic deformation
F16B 39/36 - Locking of screws, bolts, or nuts in which the locking takes place during screwing down or tightening by special members on, or shape of, the nut or bolt with conical locking parts, which may be split, including use of separate rings co-operating therewith
The present invention refers to a sell=locking nut (1) comprising an upper threaded collar (3) provided with longitudinal slots (7), being V or U shaped, also with sharp edge, defining in the collar a plurality of circular arc segments (9) compressed by an external helical spring (5), and in which the collar slots have such a width as not to allow the mutual contact of the circular arc segments (9) compressed by the spring. The spring of the self-locking nut is made of precipitation hardening stainless steel whereby it shows high constancy of braking torque features even for repeated screwing/unscrewing cycles. The invention refers also to a method for manufacturing the nut.
