There is disclosed a system and method for identifying a powder material. A powder press has a die for receiving a powder to be compacted. A press member is arranged to be moveable so as to compact the powder within the die. A load sensor senses a load applied by the press member to the powder so as to generate multiple load readings during movement of the press member. A processor is arranged to receive the load readings from the load sensor and to compare the load readings during movement of the die with predetermined load data. The processor outputs an identification signal for the compacted powder based on said comparison.

Abstract

The invention concerns a tablet press (10) which is typically portable and comprises a base (12) and a press member (24) held relative to the base by a spacer (20). The base (12) comprises a die (38B) for receiving a powder in use, wherein the spacer (20) depends from the base and is moveable relative thereto under the control of an actuator (28) such that the press member (24) is reversibly actuable between an at-rest condition in which the press member is spaced from the die and an actuated condition in which the press member is located in the die so as to apply a load to a powder therein so as to compact the powder into a tablet. The actuator is operated under the control of an electronic controller, typically in response to desired tablet parameters input by a user. A table-top tablet press of this kind is particularly beneficial for individual or small-batch tablet production, for example for research purposes.

Abstract

A tablet press system, typically for production of small batches of tablets, including a die for receiving a powder to be compacted, and a press member for compacting the powder in use within the die, the press member being actuable along a first axis under the control of an electronic controller. The die is moveable between a first location in which the die is aligned with the first axis for compaction and a plurality of further locations spaced therefrom, and include any combination of a filling, weighing and/or a tablet removal station. The system further include a die guide, extending between the first and further locations, and motion of the die along the die guide is provided by an electrically powered individual carriage, and the die guide include an electrical conductor for powering movement of the die for independent control of the movement of each individual die carriage.
