Abstract
A pellet having an external configuration capable of promoting the aerodynamic and/or terminal (penetration) characteristics of the pellet. The pellet includes a head that defines a projectile tip coinciding with an axis of the pellet, and a raised pattern centered around the projectile tip. The raised pattern comprises a plurality of legs radiating from a center of the raised pattern that coincides with the projectile tip. The raised pattern is defined by at least two tiers that are generally congruent, of different size, and converge at the projectile tip. A smallest of the tiers is superimposed on a largest of the tiers and defines the projectile tip.

Abstract
A mounting apparatus (10) and method for adjustably mounting, for example, an optical device (82) to a rail interface (84) of a firearm (86). The apparatus (10) includes a base (18), a ring assembly (14) configured to surround and grip the device (82), and at least two spacer members (16A,16B) configured to be disposed and secured between the base (18) and ring assembly (14). The ring assembly (14) includes ring segments (32,34), a mechanism (62) for securing the ring assembly (14) to the base (18), and a mechanism (36) for securing the ring segments (32,34) together to grip the device (82) therebetween. One of the ring segments (32,34) has a support surface (54) having a shape complementary to a support surface (50) of the base (18). The spacer members (16A,16B) are configured to be secured between the base and ring assemblies (12,14), and each spacer member (16A,16B) has oppositely-disposed support surfaces (52A,52B,56A,56B) configured to complementarily engage the support surface (50,54) of either the base or ring assembly (12,14).
