A magnetic field sensor for determining the strength and/or direction of a component of an ambient magnetic field. It comprises electrical circuitry which incorporates a magnetic sensing element, a voltmeter connected in the circuitry to provide a measure of the voltage across the magnetic sensing element, an electrical energy supply connector connected to the magnetic sensing element to supply an electrical current which passes through that element when the sensor is in use, and switches to reverse the direction of the flow of electrical current through the magnetic sensing element between successive measurements of the said voltage by the said voltmeter. The magnetic sensing element comprises a coil surrounding magnetic material. The electrical energy source connector and the said switches are connected to the said coil. The voltmeter is connected to measure the voltage across the said coil. A magnetic field sensor for determining the strength and/or direction of a component of an ambient magnetic field. It comprises electrical circuitry which incorporates a magnetic sensing element, a voltmeter connected in the circuitry to provide a measure of the voltage across the magnetic sensing element, an electrical energy supply connector connected to the magnetic sensing element to supply an electrical current which passes through that element when the sensor is in use, and switches to reverse the direction of the flow of electrical current through the magnetic sensing element between successive measurements of the said voltage by the said voltmeter. The magnetic sensing element comprises a coil surrounding magnetic material. The electrical energy source connector and the said switches are connected to the said coil. The voltmeter is connected to measure the voltage across the said coil. A depth gauge comprising an elongate support (1) which is intended to be in an upright orientation when in use, a multiplicity of emitters (2) mounted on the elongate support (1) and being spaced apart therealong, and a multiplicity of detectors (3) mounted on the elongate support (1) and being spaced apart therealong. The emitters (2) and the detectors (3) are electrically connected to a processor to enable the latter to send signals to the emitters and receive signals from the detectors. According to a first aspect, there are at least two sets of such emitters (2) or at least two sets of such detectors (3) mounted on the elongate support (1). The sets are directed in different respective directions. According to a second aspect, each emitter (2) is capable of emitting radiation, and/or each detector (3) is capable of detecting radiation, selectively within a plurality of different ranges of frequencies without emitting/detecting radiation outside the selected range. Alternatively, emitting/detecting radiation outside the selected range only at a reduced level compared to the radiation emitted/detected within that range. Alternatively, different emitters (2) are capable of emitting radiation, and/or different detectors (3) are capable of detecting radiation, within different respective ranges of frequencies without emitting/detecting radiation outside those ranges, or emitting/detecting radiation outside those ranges only at a reduced level compared to the radiation emitted/detected within those ranges.
A depth gauge includes an upright elongate support (1) and several spaced emitters (2) and spaced detectors (3) mounted on the elongate support. The emitters (2) and detectors are electrically connected to a processor that sends signals to the emitters and receives signals from the detectors.

An ultrasonic flowmeter comprising an elongate duct through which fluid flows when the flowmeter is in use. Ultrasonic transducers are arranged respectively to transmit and receive ultrasonic pulses propagated through such fluid when the flowmeter is in use. Electronic circuitry is connected to the transducers to provide a measure of the time delay between emission of an electronic pulse from one of the transducers and reception of the pulse by the other of the transducers. The circuitry is constructed to enable an output to be provided which is dependent upon that delay and which is indicative of the rate of flow of fluid through the duct.
