Abstract

A cargo storage (20) for handling of cargo such as containers (12) is described, comprising at least one unloading and loading appliance (16) for unloading and loading of containers (12) from or to a ship (14), train, truck or the like, and also a framework incorporating one or more movable main cranes (18) for placing and retrieving containers (12) in the short-term cargo storage (20), and where the framework has outer lanes (26) which are arranged at least partially surrounding one or more of the main cranes (18). Several auxiliary cranes (44) in the outer lanes (26) are arranged to move in parallel adjacent to the direction of movement of the main cranes (18) in the framework, and to receive respective lifting devices (24), where said outer lanes (26) parallel with the main cranes comprise the transfer points for transfer of the lifting devices (24) between the auxiliary cranes (44) and said main cranes (18), and that the lifting devices (24) are arranged to circulate in said outer lanes (26) and for return to a holding location (30).
